The investigation into her death,[32] by the Superior Court of California, County of San Francisco, trying to locate next of kin, revealed that she was not born Linda Jean Smith in Shawnee Mission, Kansas in 1956, as had been previously stated for many years. It is assumed that Kandi gave false information about her identity to begin working as a model without the need for parental consent, which may help explain why there are so many different names and ages being attributed to her.
