==History==
Delta Meghwal was the daughter of a school teacher and a resident of Trimohi village of [[Barmer district]] in Rajasthan. She was a second year student in the Senior Teaching Certificate (STC) course at Jain Adarsh Teacher Training Institute for Girls in Nokha, Bikaner.

The FIR filed by her parents states that at 8 pm on the evening of March 28, 2016, Meghwal called her father and told him she had been raped. She narrated that hostel warden Priya Shukla had sent her to the PT (physical education) instructor Vijendra Singh’s room to clean it. Singh raped her once she went to his room. On the day Meghwal was raped, only four other women were present in the hostel. Within a few hours of the incident, the institute had forced a written apology from Meghwal and Singh citing that they had been caught in Singh's room having consensual sex.<ref>{{cite news|title=Why We Need to Seek Justice for Delta Meghwal *Updated*|url=http://theladiesfinger.com/happened-delta-meghwal/|accessdate=20 April 2016|publisher=The Ladies Finger|date=2 April 2016}}</ref>

On March 29 Meghwal's body was found in the water tank. In the FIR, Meghwal's parents also named principal Eashwar Chand Vaid for abetment to suicide. Following the complaint, warden Priya Shukla, the physical education teacher and principal were arrested by Bikaner police and kept under judicial custody. Tests conducted by the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in Bikaner proved that Meghwal was raped however she was alive before drowning, suggesting it was a suicide and not murder.<ref name=TOI />
