Josh Woods is an American professional wrestler. He was formerly training in NXT Wrestling. He is currently signed with Ring of Honor. In 2017, he won the Top Prospect Tournament 2017.
Amateur wrestling career
Joshua Woods is a collegiate amateur wrestler at the University of Central Florida where he won in 2011 the NCWA National Championship and the South Eastern Conference Championship[5]. He is also in 2012 as two times NCWA All American and National Runner-up and two times South Eastern Conference Champion[5]. He also run camps for Ultimate Fighting Championship athletes such as Alex Nicholson, Seth Petruzelli, Mike Perry and Tom Lawlor[6].
Professional wrestling career
WWE
NXT (2014–2016)
He signed a contract with WWE at the end of 2014 and started to train with WWE Performance Center[5]. He began to compete in WWE NXT on April 25 during a battle royal [4][7]. Successively on July 30 and September 26, he lost on another battle royal for the number one contendership for the NXT Championship, match won by Tyler Breeze and Baron Corbin[8][9]. Then, he started to gain positive reviews of fans and experts, thanks to his new gimmick since November[10]. His first win was at Vanice, Italia, during a house show at the beginning of 2016 against Gzim Selmani[11]. On June 9, he competes against No Way Jose in a loosing effort[12]. His last match in NXT occurs on July 23 against Mojo Rawley, where he lost the match[13]. WWE released him few days later[14][15].
Ring of Honor
Top Prospect Winner (2016-present)
He started to compete in Ring of Honor in a dark match on October 22, 2016, on a six man tag team match with Brandon Groom and Kennedy Kendrick, defeating Chuckles, Joey Osbourne and Victor Andrews. He entered on the ROH Top Prospect Tournament 2017 winning against Chris LeRusso on February 11[16]. He succcessively beated Brian Milonas during Manhattan Mayhem VI and John Skyler on April 8 to win the Top Prospect Tournament[17][18]. On June 3rd, he competed against Jay Briscoe in a losing effort.
Independant circuit
