''See [[Wikipedia:Naming conventions (Latter Day Saint)]]''

Summary of naming conventions:
In summary:
*Articles wholly pertaining to the Latter Day Saint movement should be parenthesized "(Mormonism)", unless the article name is unambiguous without the parenthetical.
* Articles wholly pertaining to the [[Latter Day Saint movement]] should be parenthesized "(Latter Day Saint)", unless the article name is unambiguous without the parenthetical.
*Articles on denominational applications of cross-movement practices, e.g. "Elder (Latter-day Saint)", are generally discouraged.
* Articles on denominational applications of cross-movement practices, e.g. "Elder (Community of Christ)", are generally discouraged.
* In article names, references to [[The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints]] should capitalize the initial ''The'' and include a hyphen and a lower-case "d".
*Reference [[The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints]] by full name first reference (there is currently a lack of consensus as to whether to capitalize ''The'' in the title), and "the church" or "LDS Church" thereafter. The format should be something like: "[[The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints]] ("LDS Church"; see also [[Mormon]])". Avoid referring to the "Mormon Church".
*For members of [[The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints]], "Latter-day Saints", "members of the church", "LDS Church members", or simply "church members" in context is preferred. Use "LDS" as a second reference.
*Use of the terms "''[[Latter Day Saint]]s''" or "''[[Latter-day Saint]]s''" are preferred over use of the less-specific term "Mormons".

== Referring to members of Latter Day Saint denominations ==
== Article Title Conventions ==
Generally, members of a [[Latter Day Saint]] denomination may be referred to as ''members'' or ''adherents'' of a particular church or organization.

Several denominations, including the [[Community of Christ]] generally oppose the use of the word ''Mormon'' or its derivatives in reference to its members or theology. Therefore, the word ''Mormon'' should only be used in the following situations:
Articles specific to Mormonism should use a (Mormonism) suffix, rather than a denominational suffix. Articles should define shared beliefs of Latter Day Saints first with specifics discuss specifcs afterward in order of size. For example, [[Priesthood (Latter-day Saint)]] should be [[Priesthood (Mormonism)]]. Please note that this "policy" may change.

*In reference to [[The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints]]. However, this denomination opposes the use of the term ''Mormon Church'', a term that should not be used in Wikipedia articles in any case, since there are several churches that could be described as ''Mormon''. When referring to [[The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints]], the term ''[[Latter-day Saint]]'' is more specific than ''[[Mormon]]'', and therefore preferred.
== Defined Terms ==

*In reference to denominations and organizations originating in [[Utah]] or surrounding areas, with a historical association with [[The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints]]. For example, one may refer to ''[[Mormon fundamentalism]]''.
For defined terms in the [[Latter Day Saint movement]] with different meanings among sects use the following guidelines:

*Indicate that it is terminology of the Latter Day Saint movement and briefly summarize differences.
*Create sections for different definitions. <!-- If necessary, branches that use the same meaning should be listed in the last paragraph. i.e. Temples in [[Community of Christ]] and [[The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints]] are very different. I could not understand what this statement meant so I excluded it -->
*When needed, use
''See [[Latter Day Saint movement]] for more information''

== Miscellaneous ==

*Do not use deadlinks (a.k.a "missing links" or "red links") as they tend to attract inferior material.
*When editing, remove all deadlinks, or create stub articles.
*For stubs, apply the <nowiki>{{LDS-stub}}</nowiki> boilerplate message at the end of the article so others may aid with content. Refrain from linking to articles you ''intend'' to write until ''after'' you've written them.
:''Exception'':
:Do not unlink LDS apostles because they are part of an ongoing project.

The terms ''LDS'', ''LDS Church'', and ''[[Latter-day Saint]]'' generally refer only to [[The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints]]. However, the terms ''[[Latter Day Saint]]'' (note the capitalization and lack of a hyphen) may refer to any church or theology within the [[Latter Day Saint movement]].
