Process

  1. Talk first: Please talk to me first on my talk page or by e-mail. The advantage of e-mail is that you can say everything without causing any harm - I will treat your e-mail according to my PINOT principle. Please be specific about:
    • What I did that triggered your request
    • What you would have done in my place
    • Why you think it would be better for Wikipedia if I had no admin privileges anymore
  2. Direct step down: If you convince me, I will step down without any further ado.
  3. Alternative solution: It is very likely, though, that I will try to find some other way to address your concerns. I will sincerely look for a solution that fulfills both our needs.
  4. Fallback: If we can not agree, then you can fall back to any other recall process that is used by at least three administrators. To prevent ganging up, any process that involves the requesting editor choosing other editors, these must be less intertwined than the SHIP edits.

Goals and notes

There are two goals:

  • For me, to learn and grow from the experience
  • For Wikipedia, to be able to focus on creating a good encyclopedia and avoid bureaucratic overhead.

While I enjoy having some privileges, I don't cling to power at Wikipedia. I'm only a volunteer, and I will just move on. I've done that before.

By looking for alternative ways to address the requester's concerns, I am practicing "self-mediation", using what I learned about principled negotiation and nonviolent communication.

"at least two administrators": Currently, this is the case for Firsfron's, Lar's and EVula's processes. — Sebastian 05:08, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
