Changing username/Simple
This page is a forum in which users can request, and global renamers (including stewards) can consider and carry out, requests to rename accounts to usernames that are not yet taken on any Wikimedia project. While global renamers carry out renames, other users (including bots) help by "clerking" the mechanics of this process. If you wish to help as a clerk, please read the linked page carefully.

Instructions
For help 'vanishing' from Wikipedia,
please see courtesy vanishing.

Once you have decided on the name you would like:

  1. Read this page first. You must be aware of, and understand, all of that information before requesting a username change
  2. Check to make sure this username is not already in use. Do this by searching for the name here. If the name appears in the results, even if on another Wikimedia project, it is taken.
  3. Do not create an account under the new name or move/redirect your userpages. We'll do that for you.
  4. Log in with your present username in order to place your request. Renames will not be approved if the requester is not logged in.
  5. Click here to place your request.
    • Add your desired username after NEW=
    • Add a reason for the change after REASON=
    • Do not change anything after CURRENT=
  6. Make sure that you have spelt your desired name correctly, including capitalization and spacing. Save the page. If your request is submitted malformed, please remedy it according to this page.
  7. Check back on this page periodically to answer any questions that may arise regarding your request. Please be patient. It may take a few days for your request to be completed. If you do not answer any questions, your request may be declined due to no response.
  8. Once your request has been completed, please do not remove or change your request. It will be archived automatically by a bot.
  • Requests that do not adhere to these instructions or that are grossly malformed are subject to removal.

Important Notes After you are renamed...
  • Due to technical limitations, usernames may not start with a lowercase letter. However, you may use the template {{lowercase title}} on your user and user talk pages, and change your signature to reflect your preference.
  • Underscores and spaces are considered identical by the MediaWiki software.
  • Use of a company, organization, group, website, or product name as a username is prohibited by the username policy.
  • Please understand the implications of using your real name before requesting a name change to it.
  • ... your name will be changed to the new one in the page history of every page you've edited.
  • ... your userpage and any subpages will be moved to the new name automatically. Please do not attempt to move them yourself.
  • ... links left by your previous signatures will still point to the old userpage; however, a redirect will be left behind to your new userpage.
  • ... your request will be automatically moved to the archives in the interest of transparency.

—==Current requests== Please note that renaming users puts a large load on the database. Please do not request a rename unless it is necessary. If you have only a few edits, see the alternatives above.

  • You must use the template shown below in the gray box. If you do not do this, your request will be ignored. Don't forget to sign your name with four tildes, as indicated. If your username contains spaces, you must use an underscore ("_") in the template, as shown below. Do not add links to your username, just the text.
{{subst:Renameuser|Old_Username|New_Username|My Very Convincing Reason.}} ~~~~
  • Check this page periodically to see whether a bureaucrat has fulfilled your request or whether additional information is required. If the request has been fulfilled, read the "Once fulfilled" section for further instructions; of particular importance is the renaming of your userpages to reflect the name change.
  • The link "change username" points to a restricted tool. Only Bureaucrats can access it. Users without a Bureaucrat access level will get an error message

instead.

Add new requests to the bottom of the page.

cgrnyc10 → Ciaran Rogers

  • Current name: cgrnyc10
  • Requested name: Ciaran Rogers
  • Reason: I did not realize that my username would be displayed, and would like to have my full name shown when I post something. I tried to adjust the signature, but it was not working, and it kept my displaying my username. Thanks a lot, Ciaran
There are a number of problems associated with using one's real name on Wikipedia; please review Wikipedia:Username#Real_names_versus_pseudonyms and then confirm that you do indeed wish to use your real name before the request will be completed. Essjay (Talk) 03:51, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
 Not done - no response. Warofdreams talk 03:56, 21 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ran J. → lmax

  • Current name: Ran J.
  • Requested name: lmax
  • Reason: I should not have registered using my real first name, so therefore my change request.

Thanks! --Ran J. 14:26, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

User:Lmax already exists - you will have to choose another name. Warofdreams talk 21:42, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

ばかじん2 → zenjiromitsubishi

I was blockd username .Because I want to make it a user name same as Japanese edition wikipedia, I hope that I want to change it to zenjiromitsubishi--203.140.73.83 07:27, 17 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Not done For security reasons, you have to request the rename from the account that you want renamed. If your account is currently blocked, place the {{unblock}} template on your talk page with a note pointing here, and an admin will unblock you so you can come and sign here with the account. Essjay (Talk) 07:45, 17 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Terrillwhite → Sogospelman

MatthewFenton → Maf.e.u

風痕影 → hit1205

  • Current name: 風痕影 (talk contribs)
  • Requested name: hit1205 (change username)
  • Reason: My username was blocked because it includes non-Latin characters. I'm very sorry for that and hope I could change my username. Thanks a lot!

Monish.chitnis → Monish Chitnis

Frieda B.K. → Hibou

User:Hibou already exists. Unless you created this account, you will have to choose another name. Warofdreams talk 03:57, 21 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I did create the account, but lost the password. -- hibou 07:42, 21 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Retsopllib -> Lakeecho

Note: Please don't fulfill this request. This user is Matthvm, who has been blocked for sock-puppeteering. Retsopllib (formerly Bill poster) is the same person as Markhamman (formerly Torontoman). Whenever I ask him to stick to one account, he changes usernames and/or makes a new account. Sprocket 00:03, 20 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Note:Before requesting spockets request please do a checkuser to verify --Markhamman 11:51, 20 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Holocaust Research Team → HRT101

Aaron_Jacobs → Jopxton

Scott Cardall → Sunflowerseed

Adman.freehomepage.com → adammw

Powermonger.fr → PoM

Mantkiewicz → MAntkiewicz

Not done Your sole edit with this account was to request the rename. It is not necessary. You can simply create a new account with the capitalization that you want. You can also request that the present account be blocked indefinitely by an Administrator, if you would like it. Welcome to Wikipedia, and happy editing :) Redux 19:57, 20 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

cyrus@gilbert-rolfe.com → xyross

Ben Trent → Legis Nuntius

SKELETOR666 → Skeletor2112

  • Current name: SKELETOR666 (talk contribs)
  • Requested name: Skeletor2112 (change username)
  • Reason: My current name may be considered offensive to religious people, and per Wikipedia:Username guidlines, I'd like to change it to somthing non-threatening, and that has nothing to do with religion. I am getting into this whole Wiki thing, and when I put articles up for review, I feel that my current username may bring unwanted, and possibly even unconscious bias from other editors and peers. Add to that the fact that an all-caps username makes me look illiterate... ;) I'd love to usurp the unused name User:Skeletor, but that might be down the road when policy allows. SKELETOR666 12:40, 21 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Mantkiewicz → MAntkiewicz

  • Current name: Mantkiewicz (talk contribs)
  • Requested name: MAntkiewicz (change username)
  • Reason: In response to Redux: I did try creating 'MAntkiewicz' but I could not do it because it was 'too similar to already existing Mantkiewicz'. That's why I ask for the rename. Besides I have already created a new page.If you don't want to rename it, I'll live with that. But to me Mantkiewicz looks very ugly since Antkiewicz is my last name. Thanks for understanding in advance. Mantkiewicz 14:38, 21 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Aguerriero → Ars_Scriptor

GilliamJF → Gilliam

Ælfwine → Darkest_Hour

Texas Drama King → T. Bartosz

  • Current name: User:Texas Drama King
  • Requested name: T. Bartosz
  • Reason: I'm starting to think that Texas Drama King is rather lame. I hope that's a legit reason.

Reynoldsrapture → Veracious Rey

  • Current name: Reynoldsrapture
  • Requested name: Veracious Rey
  • Reason: First, I no longer feel comfortable using my last name, Reynolds, as a username. Over the past few months, I have become active within my community college as a member of the board of directors, and as such would prefer to remain somewhat anonomous on Wiki. Second, the new name is significant to me because veracious means "habitually telling the truth." I'm a straight shooter, and the name fits me well (so I'm told). Reynoldsrapture 02:18, 22 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Mitchell.palmer → Jttigerlilly

  • Current name: Mitchell.palmer
  • Requested name: Jttigerlilly
  • Reason: Privacy reasons.

NoRCaLD503 → Bruin03

  • Current name: NoRCaLD503 (talk contribs)
  • Requested name: Bruin03 (change username)
  • Reason: I do not want my AIM screenname to be used as my Wikipedia edit name to prevent possible harassment via AIM, moreover, my old username is used for numerous other internet projects; for privacy reasons I do not want my work on Wiki to be traced to my work on other projects; also I request to vanish per my right to vanish.
