Piyavi Wijewardene (Upul Piyavi Wijewardene) (born November 7, 1982) is a Sri Lankan researcher, lecturer, author and the Director of Institute of Human Capital Development and one of the examiners at Sri Lanka Institute of Development Administration.^[1]^[2]^[3] He is a member of the Academy for Global Business Advancement and the Chapter President, Sri Lanka at the International Management Research and Technology Consortium. He served as the Head of Academics at the Management Science Institute. He was instead worked as an Executive Officer at the Capital Maharaja Organization.^[4]^[5] ^[6]^[7]

Piyavi attended the 13th World Congress 2016 as one of his doctoral researches was selected by the AGBA, United States under the category of higher education.^[8]^[9] A student and collaborator of H. D. Karunaratne, the pair researched jointly for several years as influential proponents of Sri Lankan Free Trade Agreements.^[10]^[11] Piyavi has written several scientific articles on both Natural science and Social science related topics.^[12]^[13]^[14]^[15] Piyavi Wijewardene delivered a special speech on the enhancement of environmental awareness at the International Forestry and Environment Symposium 2015.^[16]^[17]^[18] His joint research with co-author Dinesh Abeywickrama on Green Banking was awarded at the International Multidisciplinary Research Conference 2016.^[19]^[20]

Controversy

In March 2019, he co-founded a social movement with the help of several mainstream academics and professionals to urge mass media channels to focus more economic and informative content in their prime news bulletins. Soon after many in the media sector criticized him stating that he is countering media channels for his personal grudges with his former colleagues.^[21]

Early life and family

Born to a middle-class family in Colombo he received his initial school education at D. B Jayathilaka Vidyalaya, Colombo 10, before being admitted to Ananda College, Colombo. Piyavi's father, Piyadasa Wijewardene, was a senior assessor, while his mother Vinitha Wijewardene was a government clerk.

Education

Piyavi is a degree holder from the University of Peradeniya, holds a Master’s in Business Management from the University of Colombo. Then he received his Ph.D. in Business Management from Graduate School of Management, Management and Science University, Malaysia.^[22]
