History

Kontoor was a part of the VF Corporation and was spun off in May 2019 when VF split into two separate companies.[3] The company was formed as a strategy to create an independent business focused on denim apparel.[4][5] The name 'Kontoor' is an alternative spelling for 'contour'.[6]

In December 2019, Kontoor Brands achieved a zero-waste status for its distribution facilities in Mexico City, Alabama, Oklahoma, Texas, North Carolina, and Virginia. The facilities are reported to recycle, compost, and reuse 95% of the waste material.[11]

The company has taken steps to cut down on its environmental impact and reduce its carbon-footprint through optimizing Wrangler’s supply chain to promote environmental sustainability.[12][13]

The company launched Indigood Denim which uses a foam dye applicator instead of the conventional water vats and chemical baths.
