Ethyl copper is an organometallic compound of copper metal with the formula CuC2H5. It can be prepared by the reaction of ethylmagnesium bromide with an ethereal solution of copper(I) iodide at -18 °C:[citation needed]
- CuI + C2H5MgBr → CuC2H5 + MgBrI
Ethyl copper forms green crystals and decomposes easily.
