Koh Lipe (Template:Lang-th) is an island in the Adang-Rawi Archipelago in the Satun Province of Thailand.

Koh Lipe is a tiny island in the Andaman Sea located 70 km off the southwest coast of Thailand near the Malaysian border. Koh Lipe is part of the Tarutao National Marine Park. Ko Lipe is 2 km south of the larger island Ko Adang. It was settled by a band of sea gypsies originally from Malaysia, known as the 'Chao Lei' people or also known as Urak Lawoi. This island has four main beaches: Sunset beach, Sunrise beach, Karma Beach and Pattaya beach. Accommodation from grass huts to air-conditioned bungalows can be found on these beaches. It is possible to walk around the entire island in little over an hour.

Important information about Koh Lipe

The island can be reached all year around. The high season is from November to May with daily ferries running from Lanta and Langkawi. During low season the daily boats only operate between Ko Lipe and Pak Bara. The medical clinic by the new school has been expanded but still lacks a full time doctor. Most resorts have 24 hour electricity either produced by their own generators, or bought from other suppliers on the island. The Thai name is transliterated many different ways into English. The most common names in English are Koh Lipe, Koh Lipeh, Ko Lipey and Ko Lipe.

Traveling to Koh Lipe

In high season (November to May) there are 5 locations from which you can take a ferry or speedboat to Koh Lipe: Pak Bara, Langkawi, Phi Phi, Ko Lanta, and Trang.

In low season (May to October) there is one ferry per week from Pak Bara, leaving Pak Bara.In low season, there are no ferries from Langkawi, Phi Phi, Ko Lanta, or Trang.

From Langkawi, Malaysia there are two speedboats per day: one at 9:45 am costing 128 Malaysian Ringit and one at 2:30 pm, costing 118 Malaysian Ringit; alternatively. These boats dock at the south end of Pattaya Beach.

Other ferries are met by longtail boats offering transfers to anywhere on Ko Lipe for an additional 50 baht/person.

Things to do on the island

There are many great sites for scuba diving and snorkelling around Ko Lipe and its neighbouring islands. On Ko Lipe there are many dive shops and resorts that rent out snorkel gear or arrange boat trips. See the external links.

Environmental Concerns

As a result of the island being outside of the protection limits, less rules are imposed on tourists. The recent increase in tourism has created more garbage. The garbage is burned on the island,thus creating air pollution. There are projects currently in place to keep Koh Lipe clean. Please do your part by keep Koh Lipe clean.
