Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (also referred to as simply Modern Warfare 3, or Call of Duty 8) is a first-person shooter video game developed by Infinity Ward and published by Activision for the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The game was officially announced on December 28, 2011, and the game was released worldwide on October 23, 2012. It is the eighth installment to the Call of Duty series, and a direct sequel to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, continuing along the same story line.

Modern Warfare 3 has received highly positive reviews from various gaming sites, attaining a 95% aggregate score on Metacritic. On its release, the game sold approximately 5.1. million copies worldwide in 24 hours.

Gameplay

Campaign

Similar to previous installments within the Call of Duty series, the player assumes the role of various characters during the single-player campaign, changing perspectives throughout the progression of the story.

Each mission features a series of objectives that are displayed on the HUD, which marks the direction and distance towards and from such objectives. Tasks vary in their requirements, having the player arrive at a particular checkpoint, eliminate enemies in a specified location, stand his/her ground to defend an objective, or plant explosive charges on an enemy installation. The player is accompanied by friendly troops who cannot be issued orders. Laptop computers that contain enemy intelligence appear throughout the campaign and may be collected to unlock several game bonuses.

Modern Warfare 3 has featured improved gameplay unlike the other two games. The player can know do special melee attacks when near an opponent during the single-player campaign. However, you cannot do this feature online, it's back to the original format. You can have more than two weapons, with the maximum being now up to four. Also, the player will have a proper way to cover from enemy fire, this feature is allowed online.

Cooperative

Modern Warfare 3 features a cooperative mode entitled Cooperative Warfare. The cooperative mode is very similar to special ops.

Multiplayer

Characters

During the single-player campaign, the player controls four different characters from a first-person perspective. For the majority of the game, the player will assume the role of Sergeant Robert "Meat" Hawkins, a new member of a multi-national commando known as Task Force 141, known in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. A member of the US Army Rangers is Sergeant Johnny Glover, a member who is sent to Moscow, Russia to burn it to the ground after Russian forces invaded the United States, and then sent to help the Task Force 141 help find Captain John McDonnell and Boris Vorshevsky. A member of an AC-130 gunship that is Private Alex Robinson is playable for two levels, who helps the Army Rangers burn down Moscow and help the Task Force 141 burn down Vorshevsky and McDonnell's base. The fourth and last playable character in the game is the returning Captain John "Soap" MacTavish is playable for one level who tries to assassinate Boris Vorshevsky with Captain John Price while visiting in Ukraine.
