[edit]

There are several divisions in Ypsilanti National Little League for the different age groups.[1]

Tee Ball- This division is a division that has boys and girls playing together from the ages four to five.

Coach Pitch- Like tee ball, this division has boys and girls playing together and is for kids ages six to seven.

Minors- The first division that boys and girls play separate. There is a baseball minors and a softball minors for ages eight to nine.

Majors- This division is similar to the minors, whereas the boys and girls play in separate leagues. Majors is for ten year old children to twelve year old children.

Juniors- Like the two divisions before it, softball and baseball both have their own junior league. Both are for thirteen and fourteen year old children.

Seniors- This league is just a baseball league and is for boys ages fifteen and sixteen.

Championships

[edit]

To make it to the Little League World Series, a team must be 12 years old and win their district, state, and regional championships. Teams that aren't twelve years old can only compete in a district and state tournament. In the recent past, Ypsilanti National Little League has had a few teams win the district and state championships. In 2005, the ten year old all star team won the district championship but lost in the state championship. The next year, 2006, the eleven year old boys baseball team won both the district and state tournament, winning them the title of the best eleven year old team in the state of Michigan. This win caused the team to be featured in a few prints of the Ypsilanti Courier [2]. The league followed this up with a district win by the ten year old girls softball team in 2007 and also a district win for the boys twelve year old baseball team. Both teams ended up losing in their state tournaments. The next championship win came in 2009 when the girls eleven year old team and the guys nine year old team won districts. In 2010 the 12 year old girls and ten year old guys won the district championship.

Brandon Inge's Visit

[edit]

During opening day of the 2007 season, Brandon Inge of the Detroit Tigers stopped by the Ypsilanti National Little League fields. Brandon Inge agreed to do a signing for his fans and then through the first pitch of the season; all free of charge. Inge stopped by on his 30th birthday, May 19,[3] and brought his wife and first son, Tyler Inge. After signing baseballs, shirts, hats and pictures for his fans, Brandon Inge walked out to the mound to through the first pitch of Ypsilanti National's 2007 season.
