Allen Booi (1943 – 20 July 2020), was a South African actor.[1][2] He is best known for the roles in the television serials such as; Tsha Tsha and After Nine.[3][4][5]
Personal life
Booi was born in 1943 in South Africa.[6]
In 2019, he became ill due to a mild heart attack. He died on 20 July 2020 at the age of 77 in Johannesburg at his residence.[7] He was survived by his wife, Cathy and two children.[8][9]
Career
In 1988 he started film career with Mercenary Fighters directed by Riki Shelach. Then in the same year, he acted in films including; Diamond in the Rough, and Act of Piracy. In 1989, he acted in three feature films, In the Name of Blood, and The Evil Below. In the same year, he made the television debut with the serial Inkom' Edla Yodwa. Then he played the role "Gagashe" in the popular television serial Ubambo Lwami telecast in late 80’s and early 90’s.[10][11]
In 2003, he joined with the SABC 1 drama serial Tsha Tsha and played the role "Mike".[12] The show became very popular, and he continued to play the role until 2006.[13] In the meantime, he played minor and supportive roles in the television serials such as; Zero Tolerance, Zone 14 and After 9. Then in 2007, he appeared in the SABC1 mini-series After Nine with the role of "Godfrey Xaba".[1]
He also had guest roles in the television series such as Generations, A Place Called Home, Muvhango, Isidingo and The Queen. His other notable television roles came through the serials, Mfo Kamkhize, Mongezi, Sdididi, Odessa, Phindi, 14th Floor, Getting it Right, Timber, Inxhaki Ka Sam, Ubambo Lwami, Khululeka, Going Up, Soul City, Backstage, and Mponeng.[14] In July 2020, before his death, he was supposed to go to Cape Town to start shooting for a role.[8]
