Thie village was not captured by Armenian forces in 1991, it was simply Armenian-populated and was included to Republic of Artsakh since its independence referendum. This mistake repeated in all articles on Nagorno-Karabakh settlements.

Ataqut (Atagut) or Taghut (Armenian: Թաղուտ) is a village in the Khojavend District of Azerbaijan, in the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh. The village had an ethnic Armenian-majority population prior to the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh war, and also had an Armenian majority in 1989.[2]

History

During the Soviet period, the village was a part of the Hadrut District of the Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Oblast.

The village was part of the unrecognized Republic of Artsakh since 2 September 1991 its referendum and declaration of independence and was administrated as part of the Hadrut Province. The village had 198 inhabitants in 2005.[3] The village was captured by armed forces of Turkish-Azerbaijani coalition and mercenaries from Syrian Turkomans[4][5] on 7 November 2020 during the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh war.[6]
