== Why include Fred Ashmore's claimed run ==

Why is Fred Ashmore's claimed 25:55:55 included in the "List of Records" section? It is most likely inauthentic according to all independent parties, and would not have been a record at the time even if it was legitimate, as it took place in June 2020 -- after the 25:39 that was completed in May.

I suggest these sentences should be removed from the article.

Yet another new record in 2020?

The Road & Track website says here:

https://www.roadandtrack.com/car-culture/a32475343/cannonball-record-broken-again-may-2020-sub-26/

That the Audi A8L record has already been broken. The new record is "under 26 hours." The victors and the exact time are not mentioned in the article. Mcvoorhis (talk) 23:46, 15 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Someone added the 25:39 run that Tabbutt and Toman ran, but the unidentified sub-26 run is still there. I think that was what Bolian was talking about when he said that someone had beaten the 26 hours by a considerable amount. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 107.145.129.181 (talk) 15:45, 20 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Start and finish in lead?

I'm not completely sure about this, but aren't the start and finish of the challenge by definition at Red Ball Garage and the Portofino Hotel respectively? If so, then it would make sense to put that in the lead section:

Red Ball Garage[1] on the east side of Manhattan to the Portofino Hotel in Redondo Beach in Redondo Beach, a total of 2,825.3 miles (4,546.9 km)

I agree with Pieceofmetalwork, this is not a race from New York City to LA but a race between two addresses and that should be in the lead. HighAtop94 (talk) 14:34, 23 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
In general this is the case, but the "original Cannonball" (the Cannonball Baker Sea-To-Shining-Sea Memorial Trophy Dash) used a number of different start locations, undermining the idea of a "historically authentic" start location. Due to the informal nature of the Cannonball, there is no clear "definition" of the start/end. Furthermore, future coast-to-coast records potentially using different start/end points would probably not meet Wikipedia's notability criteria for an article of their own, and instead would probably fall under the purview of this article, so I believe that it's best to keep the described definition/format of the route open to alterations.
