Whacking Day is a reference from the Simpsons. Founded on May 10th, 1775 by Jebediah Springfield. The citizens of Springfield drive the snakes into the town square, then club them to death.

I would be remiss if I didn't add that this is also the birthday of my best friend Jonathan Fencik.
