Hello Actualcpscm -- I've restored the unsourced material while the article is at AfD. Generally it's best to leave the article as is, unless there is anything defamatory present, so that editors can assess all the claims, which may well be sourceable. Regards, Espresso Addict (talk) 22:48, 12 October 2023 (UTC)

Hi @Espresso Addict, hope you‘re alright.
I‘m not aware of such a practice, and it directly contradicts WP:BLP; I‘m sure I don‘t need to quote policy to you, but BLP is very clear on unsourced information about living persons.
A consideration that also goes into my thought process is that nominating an article at AfD automatically marks it as reviewed for the purposes of WP:NPP, which means that it’s going to be indexed by search engines in its current state. Before AfDing an article, I run some basic checks to ensure that the article complies with the policies with legal considerations; in practice, copyvio and BLP.
Maybe it would have been better to include a link to a previous revision of the article in the AfD nom for the reasons that you mention. I‘ll keep that in mind for the future. But I‘d much rather an article that: 1. is indexed by search engines and 2. might attract additional attention due to potential deletion be in compliance with BLP. Actualcpscm scrutinize, talk 23:01, 12 October 2023 (UTC)
My reading of the BLP policy is that one only must remove unsourced material from a BLP if it is contentious or clearly negative/defamatory. A quick look at this article (I'll recheck in a minute) suggests this does not apply here. My suspicion is that this is an autobiography, or at least written by someone who knows the subject.
I do not know whether the subject meets WP:PROF, but a very quick look at the GS profile suggested it was possible. Espresso Addict (talk) 23:11, 12 October 2023 (UTC)
BLP explicitly states that it does not just apply to negative material: Contentious material about living persons (or, in some cases, recently deceased) that is unsourced or poorly sourced—whether the material is negative, positive, neutral, or just questionable—must be removed immediately and without waiting for discussion. What constitutes contentious material is a bit less clear, but I‘d argue that this refers to the threshold of being „challenged or likely to be challenged“, which is clearly the case here.
Notability is a different question. I couldn‘t find evidence of any of the NACADEMICS auto-passes (e.g. named chair), nor any of the other criteria, as those would require independent sources. Of course, it‘s always possible that I missed something; that happens plenty to all of us :) Actualcpscm scrutinize, talk 23:25, 12 October 2023 (UTC)
I don't think anything there falls under "contentious". As to WP:PROF, generally that goes by citation profile in cases where other points are not met. Espresso Addict (talk) 23:31, 12 October 2023 (UTC)
ETA I've marked it as unreviewed again. I think you should be able to do that? Espresso Addict (talk) 23:15, 12 October 2023 (UTC)
In principle yes, but I would assume the auto-review feature has sound reasoning behind it, and I wouldn‘t want to systematically undo it. In any case, applying BLP does not really depend on this, I just meant that it becomes even more important when an article is indexed. But of course it should always be rigorously implemented. Actualcpscm scrutinize, talk 23:27, 12 October 2023 (UTC)
I think the only reason it automarks as reviewed is to avoid other reviewers wasting time over it when at AfD. Perhaps that's a default that needs to be changed for BLPs for the reason that you mention. Espresso Addict (talk) 23:33, 12 October 2023 (UTC)

Question from Jossyteferi on Oromia (10:29, 15 October 2023)

How can I edit to a protected page. It was wrong on an important point. --Jossyteferi (talk) 10:29, 15 October 2023 (UTC)

Hi Jossyteferi, welcome to Wikipedia! Pages are protected to prevent vandalism in accordance with the protection policy. The article Oromia is semi-protected, which means you will have to be autoconfirmed to edit it directly. If you want to request an edit, you can use Template:SPER on the article's talk page; make sure to write a specific request of what you think should be changed. I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any further questions :) Actualcpscm scrutinize, talk 14:10, 15 October 2023 (UTC)

Question from Batseba Undari (12:24, 15 October 2023)

hello how do i write an article on my page? --Batseba Undari (talk) 12:24, 15 October 2023 (UTC)

Hi Batseba Undari, welcome to Wikipedia!
Creating an article from scratch is very difficult, and it may be a frustrating experience because you need to be familiar with a lot of different policies & guidelines on how to write appropriate content for Wikipedia. It‘s not usually recommended for new editors, but it‘s entirely allowed. Your first article provides guidance for new users on writing an article, including some of the more technical aspects. I suggest you read through that, as well as some of the policies it links to. I‘d be happy to help you with any questions.
There is a basic requirement for standalone article topics called notability. In most cases, that means that independent and reliable sources need to have published significant content on the subject.
Something else to be aware of is that it's generally not a good idea to create articles about yourself, your family or friends, or a company or organization that you work for or with. That's mainly because it's extremely difficult to write from a neutral point of view in such cases. You can read more about conflicts of interest here.
I know it can be discouraging to have all these guidelines thrown at you, but please don‘t let it dissuade you from editing here on Wikipedia. Meanwhile, it may be good to go around and improve existing articles to learn the ropes. If you see something wrong, don‘t worry too much about knowing all the guidelines; be bold and fix it!
