Brad Feuer is a physician, attorney, and scholar. He is a leader in osteopathic medicine and graduate medical education, a champion of medical care onboard cruise ships, and the first chief surgeon of the Florida Highway Patrol.[1]
Pioneer in Osteopathic Medicine
Feuer was the first osteopathic physician to serve as president of the Palm Beach County Medical Society and led that organization from 2000 to 2001 when anthrax was diagnosed in a Palm Beach County hospital.[2][3]
He published the first peer-reviewed survey of cruise ship medical facilities and was called to testify before Congress on the state of medical care onboard cruise ships, which led to the establishment of international guidelines and transformational change in the quality of care rendered onboard cruise ships.[4] [5][6][7] [8][9]
Feuer developed the first multi-facility graduate medical education consortium between Miami and Orlando.[10] [11]
Early life, education, and career
Feuer was born and raised in Long Island, New York, and attended The Wheatley School. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Miami, his medical degree from the New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine, and his law degree from the University of Miami School of Law.
Feuer was appointed a clinical dean and professor of family medicine at both Nova Southeastern University and the Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences.[12][13][14] Feuer created the Florida Highway Patrol Troop Surgeon Program, the first of its kind in the nation, which provides physicians the opportunity to volunteer in the service of the law enforcement community.</ref>
Florida Highway Patrol
Feuer founded the Florida Highway Patrol's volunteer troop surgeon program. In 2003, he was sworn as an auxiliary state trooper, reached the rank of lieutenant colonel, and in 2010 became the Patrol's first Chief Surgeon.[15] He revitalized the Patrol's peer support program and became a national champion for the use of evidence-based practice in first responder peer support.[16][17]. Feuer was appointed to the Department of Homeland Security Active Shooter Situational Working Group and contributed to the publication: Incorporating Active Shooter Incident Planning into Health Care Facility Emergency Operation Plans.[18] In 2015, he participated as a subject matter expert in the Department of Health and Human Services/ASPR Workshop on Critical Infrastructure HPH Sector Risk Assessment (Washington, DC, October 13-14, 2015).[19]
