Pictou Academy (PA), founded in 1816 by Dr. Thomas McCulloch, is a secondary school in Pictou, Nova Scotia. Prior to the twentieth century, it was a private school for boys, but is now a public school teaching grades 9-12. Pictou Academy's current principal is James Ryan. The Pictou Academy Educational Foundation, established in 1916, provides funds to the school.

Dr. Thomas McCulloch, on a trip to Prince Edward Island, was convinced to stay the winter in Pictou to avoid a rough crossing of the Northumberland Strait. He quickly fell in love with the town and began to serve as a local pastor. Before long he saw how lacking the educational system of Nova Scotia was and so decided that a "collage for people of all races and denominations" should be constructed. After a 12 year struggle, the government of Nova Scotia finally allowed him to begin work on his dream school but he was not permitted to make it a collage and so the foundation of the new Pictou Academy was laid.

When Pictou Academy was founded, it was located in a building in downtown Pictou, Nova Scotia. This school was moved to a new building "Up On The Hill". This second building later burned down, and was replaced by a third. This third building also burned, and to replace it, the fourth and current building for Pictou Academy was built in 1938.
