The kids themselves made up the group called the "Trench Coat Mafia." It was only a personal club between the kids and some friends. After the massacre, it gained some controversy and popularity. Ever since then, some people have "join the Trench Coat Mafia." It's really a group spawned out of popularity. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Royaljared (talk • contribs) 01:46, 8 April 2007 (UTC).

I just don't understand this. I guess its a nice dream thinking that maybe, just maybe, people would be above that... People still glare at me, make nasty comments, or just poke fun. Hate me because I'm a dumbass, make fun of me because I'm a loser, ostracize me because of million other reasons; don't use some stupid black trenchcoat I'm wearing as an excuse. Hey, wasn't there some guy wearing a hooded sweatshirt mailing bombs... We better ban those too!

The attempt to save angry youth by opressing them. This, ironically, leads to the youth being more angry.

This is exemplified by the way politicians and parents sought to ban music and video games after the Littleton shootings by members of the Trench Coat Mafia, thus making similarly disaffected youth feel even more ostracized.

I don't believe the talk pages are meant to be a discussion forum. --Sgeo | Talk 00:50, 24 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Some Vandilization needs to be removed.

The current (18:48, 15 Mar 2005) version needs to be cleaned up. I'm very new at this so I'd prefer leaving it up to somebody else. also, the idiot who didn't even bother to get a name to cover his I.P. (66.244.4.54) should be banned from editing pages.

This is a commonly used term

The term "trenchcoat mafia" exists outside this reference. I've heard lots of people using the term and well before this use. It's just a play on a style of dress. =/ -- Sy / (talk) 23:48, 10 Apr 2005 (UTC)

removed the "goth" references because that subculture doesnt glorify violence, contrary to what ppl see. no thanks to "vampires," S&M perverts or suburban teenaged metal heads

It seems like there was more to the trench coat mafia

trench coat mafia?

sorry folks, there was never a group called the trench coat mafia. this term was attached to that group of kids only to label them in the aftermath of the shooting. (Comment was added 19:14, 13 September 2006 by isp 209.189.246.113)

The article could be improved by going into more detail over the origin of the term, it's usage related to the shootings and then it's new usage in popular culture. I'll try and work on that this month since the term is flung around pretty freely and is used to describe any group anti-authorty teenagers dressed in black.Lisapollison 22:33, 15 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
