After the failure at Quebec on December 31, 1775 the american and Quebec patriot with the american will held a siege of Quebec. To remove them a party of pro-British Quebeckers under Louis Liénard de Beaujeu de Villemonde will attack them on the south shore in front of quebec city. [1]

At the battle was Clément Gosselin of the 2nd Canadian Regiment made of Quebec pro-american patriot.

The battle was won by the american who surrounded the pro-British quebeckers in a house and forced them to surrender, when one priest refused he was shot in the leg (other account say it was in the stomach).

This priest was Charles-François Bailly de Messein who will become the nemesis of Bishop Hubert in quebec.

In 1791, Bailly de Messein will infuriate the priest in the Quebec city region because of his arrogant attack on the Bishop of Quebec and 96 priest out of 144 will ask for his resignation.

The pro-British had great difficulties recruiting people to attack the american. In 1759 the british James Wolfe had a policy of burning all farms along the Saint-Lawrence and many of the resident around Quebec city were still ressentfull of the British.

While the battle was short, it was the only battle between two mostly quebeckers army during the revolution. Guy Carleton will have a commission against people who help the army. Baby, Tachereau, Williams will write a book that will count all the people who help the american in quebec. This book still exist today and carry the name of many people in every parish in quebec who help the american. While the book was meant as a retribution on them, it now serves as a book of patriotic hero who help the american.

Many people who fought against the american were under treat by the British. Their was also a good case to make that the american invasion was not such a good thing, and people who help the british were not really supportive of them.
