Emily King

Personal bio

Emily King was born Emily Cowings to an international jazz duo, Marion Cowings and Kim Kalesti in New York. Her father is African-American and Native American and her mother is Italian and Polish. Emily and her brother Alex Cowings were always exposed to music, especially jazz and classical sounds during their childhood. [1] [2]

Music career

20 Year old New Yorker Emily King's long awaited debut album East Side Story is due to be released sometime in 2007 through major label J Records. It was stated to be released in 2006, however due to undisclosed reasons, never made the release date.

A sampler had been floating around the internet since October 2006, which had 5 tracks on it including debut single Walk In My Shoes, (a remake of Donna Summer's hit song) featuring the Notorious B.I.G and other songs such as Hold On, Ain't No Sunshine a soulful classic remake, originally sang by Bill Wither, U & I and Colorblind.

East Side Story brings together Emily’s roots as a singer-songwriter with soul-drenched vocals and fluid hip-hop beats – resulting in a truly special blend, a place where the coffeehouse meets the dance floor. Her soulful sounds are heavily influenced by a range of artists suach as Neil Young, Michael Jackson, Radiohead and others.
