An Ocean Between Us

An Ocean Between Us is the title of the forthcoming studio album by As I Lay Dying, and is their follow-up to Shadows Are Security. Initially, it was thought that the name of the album was to be titled Evolution. The band finished recording the album on May 5, and is currently set for an August 21, 2007 release. The band worked on the album with producer and current guitarist for Killswitch Engage, Adam Dutkiewicz. The album has since then been mixed by Colin Richardson (Napalm Death, Bullet for My Valentine).

Singles

An MP3 for the track "Within Destruction" from the upcoming album was released on July 16th on their Myspace page. Lead singer Tim Lambesis had the following to say about the first released song from the new album:

"Within Destruction" is track 4 on our new record. We wanted to release a new song on MySpace that all of us in the band love, but also a song that probably won't get played through other media sources like radio or TV. The new record is very diverse, so we're looking forward to putting more songs up when it's closer to the release date."

It has also been announced that a new song will be released this upcoming Friday. The song being released is the album's title track, "An Ocean Between Us". The first official single off the new album is "Nothing Left", with a video for the song already finished.

Style

Guitarist Nick Hipa had the following to say regarding the direction of the album.

"Collectively we've all pushed ourselves, and we're all doing things that we weren't even capable of doing on the last record. And on top of just experimenting and trying different things, I think we just wrote some pretty sick jams, so I'm happy with it. That's all I can say. For kids who like our band and think they know what to expect from us, it might throw them off a little bit . . . I encourage anybody who likes our band to approach this album with an open mind."

As I Lay Dying announced in an interview that they do not want to be under the Metalcore genre any longer because they are looking to change their sound with each new album.
