The Saint Rose Crusaders (セントローズクルセイダーズ Sento Rōzu Kuruseidāzu kanji: 聖薔薇騎士団 Sei-bara kishi dan) is the name of a group of villains from Tokyo Mew Mew à la Mode.
History
The Saint Rose Crusaders are a group of humans who have taken control of the remaining Chimera Anima and intend to use them for world domination. The Saint Rose Crusaders were all humans born with special powers. Because they were different, they were shunned by friends and family to the point of being abandoned. They were all sent to the same boarding school where they met. The mysterious Duke also appeared to them there, telling them that they were all special and necessary. Because Duke made them feel needed, the students agreed to follow Duke. Everything they do is for Duke. They have never questioned the Duke's motives.
Their first mission, is targeting Berry Shirayuki's blood. The reason for this is unclear, but according to Aizuki Yuuzen, he was going to get "A newborn bunny with the perfect blend of blood sauce is a dish sure to satisfy all."[1] This suggests that the Saint Rose Crusaders might eat wild (maybe endangered) animals, as Utamaro suggested a wild animal to dine on.[2]
The Chimera Anima they have look very different from the Chimera Anima the original Mew Mews fought; the ones they fought look more like the human possesed. The Chimera Anima the Crusaders have look more like actual chimeras; one Chimera Anima looks like a bird crossed with a reptile.[3] It is suggested that the Crusaders made the current Chimera Anima, according to that Yuuzen asked of Duke [4]
Membership
The four members (other than Duke) are shown as children in a flashback, using their given abilities before having met each other. Royal Highness is shown levitating pencils, Blue Bayou has punched a hole in a wall, and Happy Child has his hands over his mouth while nearby children cover their ears in pain. Sweet Juliet is shown kneeling on the ground with a broken mirror as other children run away, only a vague clue of his abilities.
The members of the group are:
- Duke (公爵, Dyūku): The leader of the Saint Rose Crusaders. Duke's powers are unknown, though Duke has shown traits of hypnotic abilities. Duke wears white robes similar to those of the Ku Klux Klan. Duke also has the same name as Klansman David Duke. This relates to the theme of prejudice that replaces that of environmental harm in the original Tokyo Mew Mew. Duke's gender is never revealed.
- Yuuzen Aizuki (秋月 友禅, Akizuki Yuuzen), also known as Royal Highness: He poses as a teacher at Berry's school. His powers are unknown, but he seems to have psychic abilities and hypnosis akin to Duke's. His biting of Berry's neck and control over bats suggest vampiric tendencies, as well.
- Utamaro (歌麿), also known as Happy Child: For his powers, he can use ultra-sonic sound waves of some sort.
- Blue Bayou (ブルーバユー, Burū Bayū): He has super-strength for his powers.[citation needed]

The pronunciation of the kanji is never given in the manga, but it is to be pronounced Sei-bara kishi dan, which translates to "Saint Rose Knights Group".
