"Simon Said" is episode five of the second season of the television series Supernatural. It deals with telepathy and mind control.

Plot synopsis

Sam Winchester has a vision where a man named Dr. Jennings murders the manager of a sporting goods store and commits suicide after receiving a mysterious cell phone call. Sam and his brother Dean Winchester visit Ash, who fails to uncover anything about the vision until Sam suggests he cross-reference the town with house fires from 1983. Their search leads them to Andrew "Andy" Gallagher, who lives in a van.

When Andy meets Dr. Jennings on the street and then makes a call on his cell phone, the brothers assume that he is behind the killing. Sam manages to prevent Dr. Jennings from entering the sporting goods store by pulling a fire alarm, but, after receiving a second phone call, Dr. Jennings steps in front of a bus instead. Meanwhile, Dean confronts Andy, who uses mind control to force Dean to give him the keys to Dean's Chevrolet Impala. After learning of his ability, Sam is convinced that Andy is behind the killing, but Dean is unsure.

When Tracy (Chiara Zanni), a local waitress, warns Andy about the Winchesters, he confronts them to find out who they really are. Sam is immune to his mind control, but Dean tells him everything about the brothers and his own fears about Sam's visions. When Sam gets a second vision, this time of a woman setting herself on fire at a gas station, a fire truck passes by on the street. Dean follows them to the gas station, and confirms that the woman killed herself. When they investigate, they learn that she is Holly Beckett, Andy's birth mother, and that Dr. Jennings was her doctor. She gave birth to twins that were separated at birth.

Andy's twin is none other than Anson "Webber" Williams, the bus boy at the local diner with Tracy. When Sam has a vision of Tracy jumping off the edge of a dam, the Winchesters and Andy rush to her assistance. There they find Webber parked in his 1983 Cutlass Supreme, controlling Tracy. When they tape his mouth shut, to prevent him from giving verbal commands, he manages to control Tracy with only his mind. A crazed Webber launches into a rant, saying that Tracy was keeping him from Andy and that, in his dreams, a man with yellow eyes told him about his twin and his mother. In the distance, Dean sets up a sniper rifle to kill Webber, but Webber sees Dean and commands him to shoot himself instead. Before Dean can pull the trigger, Andy shoots and kills his twin.

When the police arrive, Andy uses his mind control to make the cops think that Webber killed himself. Tracy withdraws from Andy, no longer wanting anything to do with him, even though he claims to have never subjected her to his powers. When Dean and Sam leave, they return to the road house, where Ellen wants to know everything. Dean begins to lie, but Sam admits the truth to her—about The Demon, the children, and the house fires. The episode ends with Jo serving everyone whiskey.

Production notes

Dean's statement, "He full-on Obi-Waned me," is a reference to Obi-Wan Kenobi's Jedi mind trick in Star Wars, as is Andy's tongue-in-cheek remark, "These aren't the droids you're looking for."
The names Anson Williams and Webber are from the Happy Days character "Potsie Webber" played by actor Anson Williams.

Dean: (through gritted teeth) I'm trying! He's psychic. Kinda like you, well not really like you, but see, he thinks you're a murderer, and he's afraid that he's gonna become one himself, cause you're all part of something that's terrible, and I hope to hell that he's wrong, but I'm starting to get a little scared that he might be right.

In this paragraph Dean explains what he told Sam in "Hunted."
