The artist

Osvaldo Yero Montero was born in Camaguey, Cuba, in october 23, 1969 is an artist. He develops the Sculpture and Installations.

Biography

Between 1981-1984 he studied in the Escuela Vocacional de Arte, Camaguey, Cuba. From 1985 to 1989 in the Escuela Profesional de Arte, Camaguey, Cuba. And between 1989-1994 he studied in the Instituto Superior de Arte (ISA), Havana, Cuba. Since 1997 he resided in Toronto, Canada.

Individual Exhibitions

He had many personal exhibitions, among them we can quote"La Hora de las Estrellas" presented in 1989, Alejo Carpentier Gallery, Camagüey, Cuba. In 1995 he exhibited his works in "De Corazón a Corazón. Una de Cada Clase". Fundación Ludwig de Cuba , Centro de Conservación, Restauración y Museología (CENCREM), Havana, Cuba. In this year he presented also "Souvenirs, Algo para Recordar" And in 1997 he made "Al rescate de la fauna", Teodoro Ramos Blanco, Havana, Cuba.

Collective Exhibitions

He was part of many collective exhibitions, in 1989 he participated in the V Salón Provincial Fidelio Ponce de León , Centro Provincial de Artes Plásticas y Diseño, Camagüey, Cuba. In 1994 he was one of the selected artists for "La Jeune Peinture Cubaine" , Maison de la Culture du Lametin, Fort de France. In this year some of his images were selected to conform "Arte Cubano de Hoy@. Galerie de L'UQAM, Université du Québec à Montréal. And in 1998 he was one of the selected artists for "Contemporary Art from Cuba: Irony and Survival on the Utopian Island" Arizona State University Art Museum, Tempe.

Awards

During his life he had obtained many distintions, among them we can mention the Prize. VII Salón Provincial "Fidelio Ponce de León," Centro de Promoción Cultural, Camagüey, Cuba, 1991. In 1992 he gained the Prize Centro Wifredo Lam. 6to '"Salón de Premiados"'. Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, Havana, Cuba. In this years also obtained the Prize. VIII Salón Provincial "Fidelio Ponce de León," Centro Provincial de Artes Plásticas y Diseño, Camaguey, Cuba. And in 1996/1997 he was recognized with the Resident Artist condition at the Banff Centre for the Arts, Alberta, Canada.

Collections

His works can be found formed part of many important collections such as Centro Wifredo Lam, Havana, Cuba; in the Ludwig Forum für Internationale Kunst, Aachen, Germany. And in the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, Havana, Cuba.
