Manora, The Ancient Fort of Tamilnadu, India

The Manora fort is situated 65-km away from Thanjavur (Tamilnadu / India). The fort was built by Rajah Serfoji in 1814 to commemorate the victory of the British over Napoleon Bonaparte at Waterloo. It is an 8-storied tower, which is 300-meter high from where one can have a panoramic view of the palm-fringed Bay of Bengal. The fort derives its name Manora from the word Minaret, which means a small minar.

Manora is a small tourism place for weekend holidays. There is a boating service available from Tamilnadu Tourism Department to go for a small ride for a fee. If this place around Manora is properly developed, will attract a many tourists who visits Tanjore.

If you like to step-up the Manora Tower, you are not allowed and the way after 2 storey was closed few years back, stating that the building is weak. So you will miss exciting opportunity to see the panaromic view of the beautiful sea from the Manora Tower.
