The Alabama National Democratic Party was a political party active only in the state of Alabama.
Originally the ANDP was formed before the United States presidential election, 1968 by a large group of members of the state's Democratic Party who supported the third-party bid of former Governor George Wallace (who ran as a candidate of American Independent Party), rather than the Democratic party nominee, Vice President Hubert Humphrey.
The NDP was created to be a vehicle to field a slate of electors pledged to him and was initially closely linked to Wallace, AIP and his segregationist platform.
However, during Alabama gubernatorial election, 1970 ANDP broke-up with Wallace, who ran as a Democrat (despite his segregationist platform and attack on moderate Governor Albert Brewer). After Wallace defeated Brewer in a bitter primaries, he was easily re-elected with 637,046 (74.51%) votes against next - ANDP nominee John Cashin, who won only 125,491 (14.68%).
ANDP candidates ran in many other statewide races, but never raised above 31% or win any office.
