Summary
A Northlands badger named Gorath is taken captive on the ship Bludgullet by golden-furred pirate fox Vizka Longtooth and his crew. His home destroyed, his kinbeasts murdered, and his brow forever scarred by Vizka's cruel mace, he vows revenge.
Meanwhile, a young haremaid named "Mad Maudie" (the Hon.) Mugsberry Thropple of Salamandastron is sent to search for a badger with the mark of destiny on his brow to succeed the aging Badger Lord Asheye. With Grunten Kurdley and his crew of Brownrats on her tail, she must be quick, clever, and smart.
At Redwall, a young hedgehog named Orkwil Prink is caught stealing-again. Wise Abbot Daucus banishes him from the Abbey for one season, where he meets up with Gorath. The two journey back to Redwall to save it from Vizka Longtooth and the Sea Raiders and Grunten Kurdley's Brownrats.
