Trivia

  • Tramaine sang at the funeral service of the late Sammy Davis Jr., as well as beloved civil rights activist Rosa Parks.
  • Hawkins was somewhat ostracized from her core gospel music audience when her album of dance-oriented contemporary gospel songs yielded the hit "Fall Down". Though the song became one of the earliest crossover gospel hits, the notion of a gospel song being played in dance clubs offended many of her traditional fans at the time.
  • Tramaine Hawkins was one of the first gospel artists to sign with Columbia Records when she released To A Higher Place in 1994.
  • Gospel trio Trin-i-tee 5:7 recorded a cover of Tramaine Hawkins' signature tune "Highway" which Tramaine also made a cameo appearance on.
  • Tramaine Hawkins was featured in MC Hammer's '90s pop-gospel hit "Do Not Pass Me By".
  • Tramaine was briefly a member of the '70s soul female singing group Honey Cone that later went on to record the hit song "Want Ads".
  • Hawkins' son Jamie briefly had a recording contract with Elektra Records which yielded the promotional single "Lost My Mind", but the album was shelved before release.
  • Gospel singer Kelli Williams recorded "Fall Down 2000," a remake of Hawkins' definitive dance hit, produced by avant garde gospel artist Tonéx.
