The council consists of the Mayor of Brantford and 10 Councillors(2 per ward)
The city council elections are held every two years and the citizens and community members of Brantford vote for their candidates, who are eligible to be confirmed by majority of popular votes.
The first city council of Brantford was held on June 18th, 1877. [citation needed]
Poorly Considered Laws
They have become regionally famous for poorly thought out bylaws.
They passed an "Anti-Terror Bylaw" in 2002 that makes park use illegal after 11pm. They also have zero postings to this effect in their parks and yet have the local police enforce the law rigidly.
They built new soccer fields in the West end, which is a normal use of tax payers dollars. However, they failed to allocate any legal on road parking space or a parking lot to access the park. This resulted in one of their traffic cops ticketing EVERY parent park at a youth soccer practice.
They poorly plan and then poorly execute plans on a fairly consistent basis.[citation needed]
