C-store also stands for convenience store

C-Store is a database management system (DBMS) based on a column-oriented DBMS developed by a team at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology led by Michael Stonebraker.

C-Store differs from most traditional relational database management system (RDBMS) designs in many ways, perhaps most notably in that it stores data by column and not by row, and that it is not optimized for writing.

C-Store is licensed under the BSD license. Stonebraker has formed a company – Vertica – to commercialize C-Store.
