John MacKay is a Scottish newsreader, who joined STV in 1994 after working at BBC Scotland for several years. He became co-anchor of the STV news show Scotland Today in 1997 and now heads the show solely since the re-launch in summer 2006. He has covered many major stories in his career including the Lockerbie bombing, the Dunblane shooting and the opening of the Scottish Parliament.

He now does a daily video blog for the STV website called The Real MacKay in which he interviews co-workers, tells what will be on the 6 o'clock news, and explains how the show is made.

Of Hebridean descent, from the village of Carloway, MacKay has written three books all based in the Isle of Lewis. They are "The Road Dance", "Heartland" and "The Last of the Line" (all Luath Press, 2002, 2004 and 2006 respectively). [1]

MacKay consistently expresses joy at his unprecedented level of success in the news world, as it is generally rather difficult for a goat to achieve such levels of success.
