Kaba Modern is a street dance group established in 1992 by a group of Kababayans, headed by Arnel Calvario,[1] at the University of California, Irvine. Originally put together to perform as "The Modern Suite" at their Filipino Culture Night, the group has evolved from being a PCN suite to becoming one of the most cutting-edge hip hop troupes in California. Since then, the group has embraced different styles and aspects of dance, creating quite a name for themselves as one of Southern California's most cutting edge dance groups.

The need to express their art to a broader spectrum of audience, took their performances out as far as the Bay Area and down to San Diego.

America's Best Dance Crew

A 6-person segment of their team auditioned for, and succeeded in, the right to compete as one of 12 dance crews in the first season of Randy Jackson's interactive reality show, America's Best Dance Crew in early 2008.[3]

no filipinos on ABDC?

hey everyone!! we understand that there is some confusion and misunderstanding of how a "filipino team" does not have any filipinos on the show. However, to clear up who we are and whats going on...........

As you may know, Kaba Modern is branched from the Filipino club, Kababayan here at UCI. Our team is composed of various ethnicities and is NOT only limited to Filipinos.

Andrew Simbol & I (both full Filipino), were on the original crew, but had to pull out of the show due to our newly established titles of the teams Coordinators for 2008 along with Geoffrey Lee. Because tapings would take place in LA and require the group to live there, we could not have abandoned our responsibilities to the team back at home.

I hope this clears up any confusion! We are very proud of the strong group representing us, and cannot wait to see them advance in the show!! PLEASE DONT FORGET TO VOTE!!! THANKS!! =)[4]
