Madina Lake

Madina Lake is a four piece rock band with grunge influences. Their debut album From Them, Through Us, to You was released on Roadrunner Records on March 27, 2007. The band is originally from Chicago, Illinois.

History

Madina Lake formed in 2006, and is composed of vocalist Nathan Leone, his twin brother and bassist Matthew Leone, guitarist Mateo Camargo and drummer Dan Torelli. They played their first show as Madina Lake on May 21st, 2006, at Chicago's historic Metro.

The Leone twins gained nationwide media recognition when they appeared in a special edition of Twin Fear Factor. They won the prize of $50,000, and used it to pay for a recording process and demo of Madina Lake's first self-produced EP called The Disappearance of Adalia that came out in early 2006. With this they gained a recording contract and signed with Roadrunner Records and created their first full length album entitled From Them, Through Us, To You, which was released on March 27th, 2007. [1]

Shawn Currie of the twins' former band, The Blank Theory, was in the original line up samples for Madina Lake, but left shortly after the band started working on material.

The band sets its music in a fictional town from a story penned by the bass player, Matthew Leone. It is set high in the American mountains, and, isolated from human contact, has remained in a 1950s themed era. In the story, the town is turned upside down when its most famous socialite, Adalia, mysteriously disappears. The music provides an outlet for the band's views on politics, culture, and the media's obsession with celebrity status. The theme behind the band's music is in relation to the mystery of Adalia. The album artwork shows images of her and the mysteries behind her and the town of Madina Lake.[2]

The band signed with Roadrunner Records in August of 2006. The band independently released an EP titled The Disappearance of Adalia on August 22, 2006, after their album, which was initially set for an August 2006 release, was delayed.

The band's debut album From Them, Through Us, to You was released on March 27, 2007.[3] It was produced, engineered and mixed by Mark Trombino. The album debuted at #154 on the Billboard 200 album charts, and at #60 on the UK album charts.

Madina Lake won Best International Newcomer at the 2007 Kerrang! Awards.[4] They have been featured on three UK magazine covers to date, 2 in KERRANG!! and one in ROCK SOUND.

Tours

The release of From Them, Through Us, to You, was followed up by a headlining tour with Fightstar, Firescape, and Emanuel. They have also (at different times) toured along with such bands as Gym Class Heroes, Paramore and Greeley Estates.[5]

At first they planned to play Warped Tour 2007, but they dropped out to play on the Revolution Stage of the 2007 Projekt Revolution tour with Linkin Park and other popular bands. They did this because Linkin Park specifically chose them, and they were very happy and surprised to find out that Linkin Park knew who they were.[6]

Following Projekt Revolution they hit the UK and played in various places.[7] This ending in Kentish Town, London. They played with supporting acts My American Heart, Halifax and Envy On The Coast.

During the fall of 2007, they headlined a tour in the US with Mayday Parade, with support from Powerspace, and either Meriwether or We The Kings, depending on the date.[8]

They toured in Europe in January 2008 and then on to the UK for the Kerrang! 2008 tour with bands[9] Coheed and Cambria, Fightstar and Circa Survive. At the Brixton Academy show, Coheed and Cambria's manager physically attacked one of the band's technicians on stage, which caused Nathan to run off and help, closely followed by Matthew and Mateo.

The band featured at the Australian Soundwave Festival in February 2008 along with Incubus and The Offspring. Between Kerrang! and Soundwave, they will tour with Aiden in the United States.

Their tour of Australia, which featured them playing at the Soundwave Festival, was a huge success with the band gaining publicity down under as they were considered one of the stars of the festival.[citation needed]

Madina Lake would temporarily play in 2008's Warped Tour. They are said to hit the stage from July 9-25 in eastern states such as Florida, New York, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Philadelphia and a few others.

In Summer 2008, the band is also set to play at the infamous Download Festival in Donington Park.
