This is badly out of date. It is not even close to being the nearest galaxy to the Milky Way - it's 30 years out of date info |

Snickers or 0627—15 is the name proposed for a galaxy candidate first described by Christian Simonson at the University of Maryland in 1975.[1][2]
This small galaxy -- if it is a galaxy -- may be the closest galaxy to our very own Milky Way galaxy. Astronomical measurement of its dimensions by radio observation is difficult due to its location on the opposite side of the Milky Way from our Solar system, 55,000 light years away. Whatever it is, Snickers in located in the constellation Auriga in the Northern Hemisphere night sky within our Local Group of galaxies (best known for the galaxy Andromeda).
Some astronomers doubt whether Snickers counts as a galaxy due to its paucity of stars and low surface brightness. Critics argue that Snickers could be merely a star dust cloud, intergalactic hydrogen cloud, or high velocity cloud.[3]
