Ben James-Ellis (born (1988-12-22)December 22, 1988 is a British stage actor currently starring in the role of Link Larkin in the West End production of the musical Hairspray. He was previously a contestant on the BBC reality talent show Any Dream Will Do.

Personal life

Ben Ellis was born in 1988 in Scarborough, North Yorkshire, and was a student at the Italia Conti Academy of Performing Arts. He used to perform at the Scarborough YMCA Theatre. He is currently dating 19 year old Maude Hirst, also an actress.

Stage career

On June 28, 2007, Ellis began a role in the West End production of The Music Of Dirty Dancing and has since played the role of Link Larkin in the 2007 West End production of Hairspray. Previews for Hairspray began 11th October 2007, with the press night on 30th October 2007.

Alongside his Hairspray co-star Leanne Jones, Ellis headlined the 2008 Whatsonstage.com Year on Year Concert on February 24, 2008, at the West End’s Lyric Theatre, Shaftesbury Avenue.

Ellis won "Best Supporting Actor in a Musical" at the 8th Annual Whatsonstage Awards.

Any Dream Will Do

Any Dream Will Do was a television series which aired on BBC1, and offered the chance to be the next West End Joseph for the hit musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice. On June 2, 2007, Ellis was voted out of the semi-finals of the programme, taking fourth place, after losing out to eventual third-placed Lewis Bradley
