Hey dude! Glad to see you back - your presence (even if limited) will add a lot to the guitarists project as usual. I understand the level of life "intervention", as I am finishing up a master's degree and trying to find time to play out. Here, I have been focusing on trying to a get a few guitarist articles up to excellent condition rather than working on too many different articles. Our project has been "a mile wide and a centimeter deep" as they say. I'd like to get List of Stratocaster players and List of Gibson players up to Featured List status. As for the infobox.. well.. I have had some periods of absence myself and I either wasn't here or I found myself alone in defending the guitarist infobox. Finally I just gave over to the musicians wikiproject that it makes sense to combine them. I still hate the colors, but I've learned to pick my battles. If you want to poke at those two lists when you have time, I would appreciate it. We need to bump some non-notables off the list (they have sources, but the sources are bad) and identify who needs to be added. Cheers --<b><font color="#6666FF">Spike Wilbury</font></b> <b><font color="#000000">♫</font></b> <small><font color="#6666FF">talk</font></small> 20:52, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
: Yes, there have been some improvements. John Frusciante is a FA, although the primary editors are part of the RHCP project and not ours. Steve Lukather is looking pretty good - with some more work I think it could make it to FA. Working on some of the more popular guitarist pages can be very frustrating because there are so many fanboys coming around to mess with the article. EVH is nearly impossible to maintain as is my namesake. As far as the equipment sections go, I acknowledge the point that guitarists are gearheads but we really must write for a general audience. Maybe some day I will start a guitarist wiki (then we could do whatever we want, just imagine) but for now I think we need to temper our urge to do what has been done on David Gilmour. However, you bring up an interesting possibility. If it is okay for athletes to have stats tables for those who care to read them, why not guitarists having equipment tables? You can even make them sortable by model, year, etc. Take a look at some of the table code used in articles like Art Ross Trophy. The Fender WikiProject - no idea. The guy asked about it and then created it before I even had a chance to reply. I figure it doesn't matter as long as they are improving articles. I don't pay much attention to equipment articles lately because they are so many and so hard to maintain. I would love to see most of them merged and trimmed but I simply don't have the time. I find myself saying that a lot. :) --<b><font color="#6666FF">Spike Wilbury</font></b> <b><font color="#000000">♫</font></b> <small><font color="#6666FF">talk</font></small> 20:14, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

: Holy crap, you are right about the ESP pages. I say redirect them to the main manufacturer's page. WP:BOLD. We also need to trim or nuke the mile-long "artist list" on the ESP page to just those notable. Maybe we can get a list from the ESP web site. You might drop a courtesy note to User:QelDroma06 who seems to have created a lot of those pages since he seems semi-active. If he has a real problem with it he can revert them when he has more content to add. I will post to the project talk page even though it isn't very active. I think our project has become more of a "resource" for style guides and templates than an actual collaborative tool, but maybe that's okay for now. == Guitars: a lament ==

Sigh, your collection continues to put mine to shame. Alas, I am not as adventurous as you seem to be in the customization realm. My guitars are all stock, with the exception of my '67 Gibson B-25 3/4 short scale. It has been fitted with a pickup - har har. Not long ago, I obtained a Epiphone Dot Deluxe from Musician's Friend. It is their knockoff of the 335. However, at $299 I couldn't pass it up. It looks nice from about 8 feet away but doesn't hold up to closer scrutiny. The Chinese (lack of) workmanship really shows. However - it sounds really nice. They invested a good amount in the pickups and tuners. I wouldn't mind gigging with it since it would be no great tragedy if it got damaged or stolen. I am currently obsessed with finding an Epiphone Supernova with the union jack finish. I play semi-hollows almost exclusively now with no effects other than occasional chorus and overdrive. Funny that you mention Sonar 6 because I have been playing with the same software. It's easy to kill a few hours laying tracks, and amazing what you can do at home now. I highly recommend you invest in a ukulele for travel - they are fun to play on the road. You seem to be the most well-traveled individual I know - but alas, I don't know anything about Calgary. I've not been anywhere in Canada west of Thunder Bay, Ontario.

More on topic - I've been trying to identify a good candidate for an FA for our project. Clapton was once up for FA but failed miserably (in fact you opposed it); I think it would need work but would be worthwhile since the refs are already there. The lists are a big maintenance chore, but several people seem to be hanging around ready to revert. The whole "signature model" thing has always bothered me and I'm not sure I ever agreed that having one makes them notable. That's business, not music. Food for thought.

On a side note - have you enabled your new email yet? There's something I've got to ask you but prefer privately. --<b><font color="#6666FF">Spike Wilbury</font></b> <b><font color="#000000">♫</font></b> <small><font color="#6666FF">talk</font></small> 18:58, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

Equipment table
Hey, if you have a minute, check out User:Spike Wilbury/Sandbox. Just a draft of what an equipment table could look like. I quickly found out that not all information (like year) is readily available. Artists don't tend to call out the year of their gear unless it's vintage. Also, I'm not sure if there is a value to having the table sortable. You can click the little arrows in the headings. --<b><font color="#6666FF">Spike Wilbury</font></b> <b><font color="#000000">♫</font></b> <small><font color="#6666FF">talk</font></small> 20:44, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

FA, etc
My Dot Deluxe has the exact same problem you describe - the fingerboard finish is sketchy near the top. Additionally, a little lacquer from the head seems to have gotten over the nut and onto the fingerboard but you have to look at it from a certain angle to see it. One of the F holes has some paint slopped over the edge, as well. The good news is that guitar has a lifetime guarantee from Epiphone for workmanship problems, so a guy in Phoenix is going to fix it up for me for free. I have never seen a Dot Deluxe with chrome hardware (mine has gold); perhaps it is a Canadian variation that's not available here? If I could find one in cherry I might get it as well. I have the vintage sunburst right now.

So you delved into the shady underworld of our image use policy? It sounds like you almost have it nailed, but there are two important points that you might have missed. First, if an image is given permission only for Wikipedia we cannot use it, because our content has to be reusable under the GFDL. Second, if an image is licensed as "non-commercial only" we also cannot use it, for the same reason. I know it doesn't make a lot of logical sense, but those two items basically put undue restriction on our content that makes it unusable down the chain. Those two restrictions also make most commercial images unusable unless we claim fair use. And we can't claim fair use if a free alternative could be found. For us to use Fender's images, for example, we would have to get them to release the images under either:
* Public domain
* GFDL
* Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 or Attribution ShareAlike 3.0
The chance of the first two are about nil, and the chance of the third is not very good when dealing with a corporation because they are worried about their brand value. If they license their images Creative Commons, people could use them all over the place, even for commercial purposes.

I hope this made some sense. Like all things, it is clear in my own mind. :)

I am sort of disenchanted with the Clapton article the more I look at it. I'm also having a lot of head-shaking moments. What about Robert Johnson? --<b><font color="#6666FF">Spike Wilbury</font></b> <b><font color="#000000">♫</font></b> <small><font color="#6666FF">talk</font></small> 23:28, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

Spike is still Spike as far as I can tell. I think he may have retired from the project. It is not a personal attack to refer to someone's actions as trolling because, at the time, that's what you were doing with your tag and walk away edits. If you are no longer doing negative contributions like that then that is great. Good luck to you in your future on Wikipedia. Hopefully you are not just wasting time as you were in the past when you were spending all your time tagging and not following up on them. :You are the only person who has ever called me a troll. You are the only one that called my edits tag and walk aways - except of course, that was the attitude of the sock puppets. Actually, my editing behavior has not changed. Fortunately, friendly wiki people came to my defense over the sock puppet and tagging issues which was finally laid to rest in the Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Starwood and its associated workshop, evidence, decision etc. They caught the sock puppets of User:Ekajati and friends. I have never had an RFC or Arbitration result that reflected negatively on my editing behavior - just you and the sockpuppets. As for Spike, there is a message on his page regarding the deletion of an image of Aguerriero. Aimulti (talk) 23:06, 14 April 2008 (UTC)
:It's the tag and the fair-use rationale applied. If it is a cover (album, book etc) or a screenshot or a poster then it is a violation of WP:FAIR if it is used outside of the article that directly sources or represents the scanned image. Anger22 <small> (Talk 2 22)</small> 23:11, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

Which tag should I use? I thought I used the right tag. Not 'fair-use'.

Aimulti (talk) 23:18, 14 April 2008 (UTC)
:You shouldn't alter a tag to say something different then what the image is. If it's a cover then it gets a cover tag a poster gets a poster tag, a screenshot gets a screenshot tag etc. A detailed fair-use rationale must accompany any fair-use image or else it won't stick. If you are freely contributing images of your own then that's great. But I would pursue adding them to the "free-use" Wiki Commons page. Images on Wikipedia that are fair-use have restrictions of use. Free-use images on Commons do not follow these same restrictions and can be used anywhere that the image supports the subject of the article text. I would suggect his route. == List of heavy metal bands ==

I was wondering why did you delete my post. Since all other metal genres have their band listings I thought it would be a good idea to make such a listing for heavy metal. Of course I notice the idea that some people view heavy metal as a parent genre over other kinds (though I think that's not very accurate) but there is a ton of articles about metal bands in wikipedia which have "heavy metal" as their main genre. Wouldn't you agree making such a list would make things clearer on Wiki?
cheers
:Many of the bands you entered are already on the list. It is not an alphabetical list. There are numerous sub-genre listings that are alpha based. That list is meant to be a support piece for the main article. It should resemble featured lists such as the List of Telecaster players. You edit also included flag icons which have been discussed across many Wikipedia projects and are not to be used as simple decorations see WP:MOSFLAG. Anger22 <small> (Talk 2 22)</small> 15:06, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
::Well- many of the bands are on different lists since they're music ranges from, let's say, progressive metal to symphonic metal (e.g. Sonata Arctica). But what about metal bands like Blaze Bayley (band), or King Diamond (not to mention Judas Priest but they're on "original movement" list)- their music is really hard to fit into any other genre then heavy metal. Making a list of heavy metal groups I was thinking of just such bands. If lists such as List of power metal bands or List of progressive metal artists are alright then why not a list of heavy metal bands?
:::Righto- I get it now. Thanks for your help. Hoodinski (talk) 16:26, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

You are wrong!
Did you not see the template? If you continue on this path it is not I who will be blocked. Just look on the Amon Amarth page. I'm not the only one reverting other for changing genre delimiters. By you changing them only will cause edit wars. You should leave them as they are, whether that be line breaks or comma breaks. You are citing NO policies in your rverting and that is enough for someone to stop what you are doing. :Not to mention it would seem you visit a number of metal band pages and so you must have noticed that many use line breaks in the infobox. Not that that truly matters but I still don't understand why you are doing what you're doing. Not to mention you either lied or made a mistake by saing you agreed with Blackmetalbaz. He would not agree with what you have just done. He does not change genre delimiters. <b><font color="#0066CC">Blizzard Beast</font></b> <small><font color="#666666"><i>$ODIN$</i></font></small> 21:51, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
I am afraid you are seriously mistaken. Yes, in the past I have had problems, though generally I make a ton of good edits. I've been blocked twice (or was it three times? hmmm) but I already resolved to change my character a long time ago. For the past few months I've been doing nothing but constructive edits. Yes, I've gotten into disagreements/fights with editors and I was still blocked once after I changed my behaviour, but that's because sometimes you have to ride that edge and do what you think is best for wikipedia. Hence the "ignore all rules" rule. I have a large amount of supporters and some dissenters, though most of them would say that I still make plenty of good edits but it's just those few edits that I do that piss them off. I do not peresisitently edit war at all anymore, nor do I make "false edit summaries" (I don't remember ever doing that, even when I wasn't on my best behaviour, but w/e), nor is the consensus I speak of make believe. Go take a look and read through the past archives of them infobox musical artisit template thing. There was a consensus to stop changing genre delimiters because there was a huge edit war over them (and yes, I was a part of it but I can hardly be blamed for that as most everybody else was also) at least on many metal band articles. So, as I said, consensus was formed to not change genre delimiters as that would cause edit wars. Now there are some editors who eventually broke that consensus and see no use for it anymore, but I have not forgotten that genre delimiter war and it took a lot of time from people and a lot of time from productive editing. I don't want to go back to that time. So I continue to keep to that consensus (and I'm not the only one). It's obviously your call to make about what you think of me but I am a good editor and I think I've been very helpful to wikipedia. The only problem I've ever run into was edit warring before and in the very beginning when I made my account I made some incivil comments to vandals which I was warned about. Other than that my record is pretty clean and why else would I have been nominated by an admin to be an admin? I don't know if you know User:Scarian, but he is a great editor and well-respected by many and has no enemies that I know of. I may not be like him in a lot of ways, but I have great respect for him and he did nominate me to be an admin (after I had changed my ways for quite a while) and that has to count for something. I don't feel like I have to prove myself to people, but I do think I'm a good editor and I follow wikipedian rules, I report and warn a lot of vandals, try to make helpful edits, etc. My point is that I would not say the things I do or make the edits I do out of some treachery or hate for wikipedia or other users. I only want wikipedia to be imrpoved. I have no problem with you as an editor (i've seen you make plenty of fine edits) but changing genre delimiters only causes edit wars since both sides can cite the template. It's best to leave things as they are for now. <b><font color="#0066CC">Blizzard Beast</font></b> <small><font color="#666666"><i>$ODIN$</i></font></small> 22:09, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
:You have issued warnings vandalism warnings to numerous editors for changing a line break into a comma. You identified their edits as vandalism and even issued warnings for what is clearly not vandalism. The key word there is numerous. I observed you revert no les than six separate IP editors on the same article over the course of two days. If numerous editors are trying to contribute. And the only editor reverting these similar changes is you. Then you are the only problem here. I could really care less how many good edits you make. Or how many good edits you think you make. When it comes to band genres and how they are formatted, you edits based on personal POV and based on personal agenda. A personal agenda that even had plastered across you own user page. If you want to edit "on the edge" try unencyclopedia. "On the edge" benefits no one here. I do not know the editor you mentioned. That person joined the project during my hiatus. I see where he posted an RfA message on your talk page. On April Fools Day. Perhaps there is a message there that you are missing. I have told you what will happen to you if you continue with your agenda. It's really up to you. Many editors using commas as their formatting choice versus you reverting them all. There is one edit war being instigated there. And it is you that is pushing it. Try keeping your opinions to yourself and edit positively for a change. If you don't want to get blocked, leave take your agendas somewhere else. Anger22 <small> (Talk 2 22)</small> 22:32, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
::I don't feel like continuing this conversation. My edits are not based on POV. If someone changes a band's genre delimiters to line breaks I also change that back to comma breaks so how the hell is that POV? It's called "keeping the peace". Also I though that RFA was an April Fool's joke as well, but he assured me it wasn't. Whatever. You don't understand and you won't. So be it. OK so you reverted my rather aggressive changes, I half expected that. Care to elaborate on the specific problems? I'd be happy to improve my contribution. Tim flatus (talk) 23:53, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
:Read the links found under WP:POL. Specifically WP:ATT, WP:NPOV, WP:AWW, WP:CITE, WP:V and WP:RS. Your edits were overflowing with POV skewed original research (some of it sounding like it was written by a ten year old) and some content even borderline nonsense/vandalism. Anger22 <small> (Talk 2 22)</small> 23:59, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
::Will deal with POV/OR objections. The rest is dealt with in WP:CIV. Sorry I asked. <small>—Preceding unsigned comment added by Tim flatus (talk • contribs) 00:19, 22 April 2008 (UTC)</small><!-- Template:Unsigned --> <!--Autosigned by SineBot-->
:::Your edits have nothing to do with WP:CIV. They were close to WP:TROLL/WP:VANDAL though. Poetic this is an encyclopedia. No poetic adjectives or flowery foolishness required here. Just cold boring facts supported by references from reliable sources. Anger22 <small> (Talk 2 22)</small> 00:23, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
::::Bad judgement I can accept. I was not intentionally vandalising or anything like it. I understand that flowery, poetic language won't get accepted even in an article about Psychedelia. *sigh* Tim flatus (talk) 00:35, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

I'm not going to drag this out, please could you try not to WP:BITE so hard in future. I am persevering only because I realise that if I can get my edits past you they probably will turn out to be decent Wikipedia material. I understand that attempting to marshal enthusiastic newbies is a tiresome business and I realise that if I want to make sweeping aggressive edits in future, they'd better be A-grade wikipedia material, or I will get bitten again. I'll make changes to the section gradually and leave the emotive language for my own works of fiction. I'm guessing I'll get along better if I leave other people's material intact unless I really think I can improve it. I would really appreciate it if you could find time to make more constructive crits rather than just throw policy guidelines at me: I have read them, I just don't fully understand them; I am a lyricist and storyteller by nature - old habits die hard. I will get my head around what is required, please be patient with me. Thanks for even bothering. I mean that. :When you add lines like John Lennon was tragically gunned downed by a deranged fan In December 1980... There were still plenty of surviving old hippies who continued being productive into the 21st century, however. That's a borderline troll edit. The entire prargraph preceding that crap was just that... crap. It's an article about Psych rock. If you want to write about the invention of the CD then go to the article about the compact disc and write about it. No opinions, no original research. No flowery poetic trash. This isn't a blog. It's a boring encyclopedia of verifiable facts. You can try things one line at a time. But if anymore 'lyrics' show up they will be reverted. I will help you if you need help. Anger22 <small> (Talk 2 22)</small> 11:39, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
::I'm beginning to understand the problem better now, thanks for the example. It actually makes life easier for me to leave out all those bits of unrelated background story, unless it's important to the discussion of a particular release, I guess. I'll be a lot stricter in future. I didn't realise that my wording could be taken as trolling; honestly, not the intention, but I see how careful I have to be particularly around reporting potentially, already emotive subjects like death. I'll study the Rush article before I do anything else. Tim flatus (talk) 12:33, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

Sup man - I just wanted to give you a personalized and very grateful thank you! for your support for my recently withdrawn RfA. Thanks for considering me. The main reason is i haven't engaged in any admin related activities like AFD and such so there's no reason for me to use the tools, and I'm currently inactive. Maybe one day, but there are just too many crappy articles out there that need attention. Cya around :) M3tal H3ad (talk) 10:53, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

Hey dude, long time no see! I saw your comments on the Opeth talk page, thanks for the kind words. I myself took off more than a year from Wiki-work as life called, but I have some time now and have been working up a few articles. I completely rewrote the Black Sabbath page and put it up for peer review. Any comments you have would be apreciated, I am gonna get this bastard up to FA one day!! \m/ Skeletor2112 (talk) 11:20, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

Linkspam whining
Hi there Anger22,
You have blocked my link to my website at www.blacksabbath.co.uk
The web address is owned by me, as well as the content. I am merely try to raise awarness to the fact that our book is out there, and is by far the most comprehensive book pertaining to the history and development of the band Black Sabbath.

I note that there are several other web addresses posted, so why do you not block them for making comment, afterall they are mostly commercial?

So please show a little commonsense, and stop blocking my attempts to post as our book was four years in the making, i feel it is an affront for you to consider my post as spamming.

With very best wishes,

Enough of your reverts. LaruaWA11 must be unbanned. Tell everyone this instant.

What a pity, a warning from someone with no power at all. You useless wannabe. Inform the administrators like a good dog.
