Criticism Section
This entire section is ridiculous. Most of it is centered around how the general state of hip-hop is perceived today; we don't have to write ten million paragraphs about what this indirectly implies toward Soulja Boy. On top of that, the section is nowhere near objective. For example, it cites a few reviews from all these random websites that no one's ever heard of to support the idea that Soulja Boy is universally panned by critics. <small>—Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.11.140.87 (talk) 22:45, 16 December 2007 (UTC)</small><!-- Template:UnsignedIP --> <!--Autosigned by SineBot-->
: You know, to be honest, I had to tone down that section a bit because it was getting so fat it was outnumbering the actual biographical information about SB, which would cause this page to become a borderline attack page, which is against Wiki rules. Also, keep in mind that since SB is a living person just like the rest of us, making too much space in the article for "attacking" SB would go against the "Biographies of Living Persons" policy, as well as "Neutral Point of View". I'll keep proofreading this article later. --Andrewlp1991 (talk) 06:11, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

Wrong Tense
Is there one person on this website or is there a whole bunch of idiots who are bad wid da grammar in da skoolz. 'In November 2005 Soulja Boy, along with another rapper "Arab" posts his songs on the music-based social community SoundClick. Following positive reviews on SoundClick, Soulja Boy opens a YouTube acc'

It's POSTED his songs.... Soulja boy OPENED.. You can put 'posts songs on soundclik. Soulja Boy opens a youtube... but you would have to use bullets for each sentence. And it's not just here. I have noticed this type of retarded writing on SEVERAL different pages. (mostly dealing with hip hop related articles)

Add section 4 song meaning
On most single/song pages there is a section explaining the songs meaning. Where is the section in this article. There needs to be one. It is extremely sad that 17 yr old is rapping about b*tches, hoes, and ejaculating semen on a girls back (that is what superman that ho means!); but even more terrible that young kids are singing it and dancing to it like it the Electric Slide! But the worst is that this trash song is on the KidzBop & Now...Music compilations. Nas is right. R u kidding Ishmael Rufus ? No 1 is pushing anything. All song pages in wikip have a section that discusses/states a song meaning. Listen to the song. The song itself prooves the validity. Plus all the negative reviews also mention the songs terrible meaning and message. Read this article from students in St. Louis. Also Google it and 'reviews' and see what you get. Read its review from allmusic guide. All neg bc of the songs content(tho the catchy beat is praised). I learned from reading the song's wikipage that even fellow crap rapper Snoop Dogg doesnt like the song. Nor do 50 cent and Jermaine Dupri who call it 'mindless music'. 70.108.56.92 (talk) 10:28, 28 December 2007 (UTC)

Sexual innuendo critism just rumors and urban legends...
The sexual innuendo's supposedly associated with the song 'Crank Dat' are just rumors and urban legend. Snopes.com has yet to address this, but from the best I can tell these rumors started out on the internet. In the article the editor links to urbandictionary.com as a citation to show that the 'superman' is a sexual maneuver. It may be true that a sexual maneuver is named the 'superman' and is in use as slang but there is ABSOLUTELY NO EVIDENCE WHATSOEVER that this is what Soulja Boy was referring to in his song. I recommend whoever has the ability to edit this page, which is currently locked, delete that part which is under the heading "controversies." It's simply not true. It is rumor and has become something of an urban legend but not only is there no evidence this is what Soulja Boy meant, common sense and good rap comprehension skills would lead the neutral observer to conclude otherwise. The fact is that Soulja Boy was simply rapping about a dance move - one which he invented.

In the song itself he only says once or twice the words "superman that ho," and notably doesn't say the word 'ho' or any other word that might mean female in most of the occurrences of him talking about performing the action 'superman.' At the beginning of many verses Soulja Boy says the phrase "Soulja Boy off in this ho, watch me crank it watch me roll." In this instance the word "ho" doesn't mean female (or prostitute) either, it is simply him saying that he is here (or rather on this track). In much the same way, when he says "watch me Superman that ho" the word "ho" is not intended to mean a female or a prostitute either. This is a common misunderstand of the slang word "ho" which does not in every slang or ebonics use of the word mean either a female or a prostitute. Often it is just used as a pronoun for any place or object. When he says "superman that ho," Soulja Boy simply means to watch him preform the dance maneuver named the "superman." This usage of the word "ho" can be a significant challenge to explain to persons who haven't heard it used in that formula or that context. I hope I have done this adequately. <small>—Preceding unsigned comment added by Streetknowhow (talk • contribs) 10:06, 4 December 2007 (UTC)</small><!-- Template:Unsigned --> <!--Autosigned by SineBot-->

Actually, all you've done is make a stream of assertions, which may (or may not) be true, and which may (or may not) be relevant to the article. Please provide credible sources and references. 78.86.33.152 (talk) 13:38, 8 December 2007 (UTC)

I understand that we need to be sure about these things before they are put in the article. However, I find it extremely unlikely that Soulja Boy just happened to use the term "superman that ho", which also has the sexual meaning, to mean something else. If he did not mean it in a sexual way, he probably would have intentionally not used those words as to not have his meaning confused. Perhaps you are correct, but I heavily doubt it. -BBonds <small>—Preceding unsigned comment added by BBonds (talk • contribs) 17:35, 16 December 2007 (UTC)</small><!-- Template:Unsigned --> <!--Autosigned by SineBot-->

I don't know who did it, but there is no edit button to fix it. So, if anyone knows how to fix it now, here is the information that was on it.

DeAndre Ramone Way[1] (born July 28, 1990 in Chicago, Illinois), better known by his stage name Soulja Boy Tell 'Em, or simply Soulja Boy, is an American rapper. In September 2007, his single "Crank That (Soulja Boy)" reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100. At age six, Way moved to Atlanta, Georgia[2][3], where he became interested in rap music. [4] At age 14, he moved to Batesville, Mississippi with his father, who provided a recording studio for Way to explore his musical ambitions.[2][3] He became known nationally for his song "Crank That (Soulja Boy)", which he initially self-published on the Internet, as it became a number-one hit in the United States for seven non-consecutive weeks starting in September 2007.

Career
In November 2005, Way posted his songs on the music-based social community SoundClick. Following positive reviews on the site, Soulja Boy then established his own web pages on YouTube and MySpace.[5][6] In March 2007, he recorded "Crank That" and released his first independent album Unsigned and Still Major, followed by a low-budget video filmed demonstrating the "Soulja Boy" dance. By the end of May 2007, "Crank That" received its first air play and Soulja Boy met with Mr. Collipark to sign a deal with Interscope Records.

On August 12, 2007, the song appeared on the Emmy-award winning HBO series Entourage, and by September 1, it topped the Billboard Hot 100 and Hot RingMasters charts.[7] Way's major label debut album Souljaboytellem.com, which was reportedly recorded using just the demo version of FL Studio[8][4], was released in the United States on October 2[9], peaking at #4 on both the Billboard 200 and Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts.[10]

On December 9, 2007, Way was sued by William Lyons (aka Souljah Boy of the Mo Thugs) who claims he first created the stage name 'Souljah Boy'. [11]

Criticism
The album Souljaboytellem.com was met with mixed reviews, ranging from a positive from All Music Guide[9], to a negative in Entertainment Weekly,[12] Several reviewers credited Soulja Boy with spearheading a new trend in hip-hop, while speculating the artist may still be a one hit wonder.[13][14][15][16]

Critics and hip-hop figures such as Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent, and Jermaine Dupri cite Soulja Boy as artistically typical of contemporary rap trends such as writing for the lucrative ringtone market, and the ascendence of "Southern hip hop", emphasizing catchy, mindless music that dicards rap's traditional emphasis on message.[17][18][14] Soulja Boy identifies his goal as making upbeat, party-themed music that avoids the negative, violent image that he sees in most hip-hop.[18][17]

Initial Reception
Please consider removing the last line of the Initial Reception section, referring to "his goal as making ...music that avoids the negative, violent image that he sees in most hip-hop.[18][17]" This doesn't seem to be his real goal if you look at the lyrics to Crank That Soulja Boy. Even if it is his goal, I think his goal is not relevant to his reception.

Also, if this alleged goal is included anywhere in the article, please balance it with facts about his lyrics. so that people can draw their own conclusions. Lyrics to Crank That Soulja Boy include inviting others to watch him "supersoak dat b*tch" and "superman dat hoe", and perform other mysogynistic acts that are clearly negative and violent. References for translations of the slang include your external link to the words and urbandictionary.com translations of the slang. Some public schools have banned it too - reference http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/12/20/AR2007122000913.html Another user in the comment above about song meaning references an article by a student who explains very well how it demeans women.

Move to Soulja Boy Tell 'Em?
His official name is Soulja Boy Tell 'Em. He was Soulja Boy up until he got sued, and now he's Soulja Boy Tell 'Em.

Because of that, shouldn't we move the page to Soulja Boy Tell 'Em, with "Soulja Boy" redirecting to "Soulja Boy Tell 'Em"?

Ok, fine the reasonable answer is why do you have Soulja Boy's MySpace up there but you won't let his Newgrounds mean for god sakes he had a Newgrounds profile long before he had a MySpace, the only reason why he even has a MySpace is because every celbrity does, I'm sure Soulja Boy would love to have his Newgrounds on a Wikipedia page seeing how he always uses his Newgrounds profile cuz he changes the pictures and udates new profile posts alot. He even has new cartoons in the making.

~Ya Boi Krakerz~ (talk)

:Other stuff exists is not a good argument for your stuff. Not every site where Soulja Boy has a public account profile is worth listing. Unsigned musicians often use MySpace to post and sell music, which makes it a standard external link for musicians, and especially relevant in Soulja Boy's biography. :If argument via WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS doesn't convince anyone, do you really think repeating same argument using ALLCAPS will get you what you want? Soulja Boy's YouTube video is significant in his biography, predating his official albums and apparently played an important part in getting him signed. Sorry but that guy was just pissing me off, I am sorry for the ALL CAPS and tha typed in-cursing but he told me if I gave him a valid point of putting up Soulja Boy's Newgrounds account then it can let be, but he just tackles my fact right back, it's like he's setting me up just to make me look bad.

I mean if Soulja Boy has a YouTube profile (I'm just assuming these videos are on his profile because i'm too lazy to check out his YouTube Channel myself) it probably has Music videos such as his smash hit Crank That with smaller unpopular stuff inbetween. And that is also for Soulja Boy's fans to see what he posts on YouTube, it's really relevant to have his NG profile on this Wiki-page because i'm sure Soulja Boy is proud of his NG profile AND accoringly his cartoons seeing how he leaves an add to his NG profile on the front page of his website.

~Ya Boi Krakerz~ (talk)

:Krakerz: You were asked for a "reasonable" answer, and you still have not provided one. This Wikipedia article is not a list of things Soulja Boy is "proud" of. For something along those lines, you might want to ask Soulja Boy to link his NG profile from http://www.souljaboytellem.com .
:Please read Wikipedia's external links policy. The NG profile contains no unique information about this article's topic. In fact it contains very little information at all. == Soulja Boy as an online personality ==

I'm getting the impression that prior to his music fame Soulja Boy had made himself a noticeable personality in various online forums, and some of the edits to this article are reactions to his reputation in that space. Does anyone have (reliable, non self published) sources for this? If this is an unusually important part of his image, information on his history and reputation in such circles might be worth including in the article.

I should add that since it is normal for people SB's age to spend much time online, so that fact that SB belongs to certain sites and does stuff online is not ipso facto notable. Well beside the obvious false 2Pac comment i can give you 3 reasons why Eazy-E didnt produce Soulja boy's ablbum
1.Soulja boy has stated multiple times he produced his whole album on a simple computer program at home all by himself with some minor help.
2.Eazy-E was one of the members of the legendary NWA (you may know members Ice Cube and Dr.Dre) and would never work with someone like Soulja Boy.
3.Eazy-E has been dead for over 10 years.

Soulja Boy is listed here as giving a positive vibe without the violent overtones. But when you look at his original video, the one referenced in his high-money video, he's waving handguns during his dance and pointing them into the audience!
