Lola Montès is a 1955 film directed by Max Ophüls based loosely on the life of Lola Montez. This is the last film directed by Max Ophüls. Lola Montès, starring Martine Carol, tells the story of the 19th Century cabaret dancer and her numerous affairs, most notably with Franz Liszt and Ludwig I, King of Bavaria.
The audience is lead through the events of Lola Montez's life, through the use of flashbacks. The film was roundly criticized upon its release in France. In response, producers re-cut the film in favor of a more chronological storyline.
