The 6th book in the Brains Benton series: The Case of the Painted Dragon.

Written in the late 1950s, early 1960s, the Brains Benton Mysteries chronicle the adventures of Brains Benton and his friend Jimmy Carson, who together form the "Benton and Carson International Detective Agency." The series was published by Whitman Books, an imprint of Western Publishing. All appeared in hardback, only a couple were reprinted in paperback. There are six books in all.

Titles

  1. The Case Of The Missing Message (1957)
  2. The Case Of The Counterfeit Coin
  3. The Case Of The Stolen Dummy
  4. The Case Of The Roving Rolls (1959)
  5. The Case Of The Waltzing Mouse
  6. The Case Of The Painted Dragon

The books are very realistic; there is no scene that could not actually happen. However, these books came out toward the end of the hayday of juvenile fiction series (like Hardy Boys and Tom Swift), and didn't last very long.

The books were written by Charles Spain Verral. They are similar in tone to The Mad Scientists' Club books.
