Tridelphia Lake is man-made and was built in 1943. At normal levels it has a surface area of 1.3 square miles. It is owned by Washington Suburban Sanitary Comission.

Brighton Dam, also known as Tridelphia Lake Dam, is concrete and buttress supported. The core of the dam is concrete. The foundation is rock. Though originally completed in 1943, the structure was modified in 1999. Its height is 80 feet with a length of 995 feet. Maximum discharge is 83000 cubic feet per second. Its capacity is 27000 acre feet. Normal storage is 19000 acre feet. It drains an area of 77.3 square miles.

Tridelphia Lake is surrounded by rolling acres, beautiful farmland, trees, and shallow beach areas. It is enjoyed by the residents of Montgomery and Howard Counties for fishing and boating. A license is required to facilitate fishing privileges on the lake.
