Rosmini College is a Year 7-13 (Form 1-7) Catholic School situated in the Takapuna area of Auckland's North Shore in New Zealand. The school was named after Antonio Rosmini, founder of the Institute of Charity. The school's motto is Legis Charitas Plenitudo, translated as 'Charity Fulfills the Law', or sometimes translated as 'Love Fulfills the Law'. Currently, the school's roll sits at just under 1,000 students. The school was founded in 1961 by Father Catcheside.

School Life

The school's enrolment policy favours boys from Catholic Primary Schools, although students of other denominations fill the remaining roll space, in accordance with government funding legislation. The school's curriculum mainly mirrors that of state schools, except for the addition of Religious Education and its associated Retreats and Masses.

Prayer

Prayers are a part of daily school life at Rosmini. This generally includes the school prayer:

Lord,
Help us to be school of dignity, integrity and fairness
As we try to live out the maxims of Antonio Rosmini
To desire only, without limits, to please God and be just
To direct our thoughts and actions to the glory of God's church
To accept calmly what God wills for us
Through Christ our Lord
Amen

Facilities

The school's buildings include a large auditorium, purpose-built music, technology and science blocks, a large main block (containing classrooms, computer labs, the school reception, several staff offices and the school library), and several prefabs. The school also has a gymnasium and extensive sports fields.

A brand new gymnasium facility is currently under construction.

Sport

Sport is an integral part of Rosmini culture, and the school has enjoyed success at regional level in many sports, particularly rugby.

The school has produced five All Blacks - Blair Larsen, Graham Dowd, Liam Barry, Rudi Wulf and Anthony Boric, the latter two of which are in the current (2008) squad. Rosmini has also produced three Black Caps - Martin Snedden, Chris Pringle and Chris Drum. Adrian Blincoe, a Rosmini Old Boy, competed in the 5000m Men's race in the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Other Information

Rosmini College's sister school Carmel College is situated nearby, near Lake Pupuke. Each year Rosmini College staff select two Head Boys, two Deputy Head Boys and two Sports Captains.
