Andy Capp's is a brand of flavoured corn and potato snack made to look like chips (UK)/French fries (US). It is made and distributed by ConAgra Foods. The product was created in 1971 and licensed the name and likeness of the comic strip character Andy Capp, and until recent years the strip was featured on the back of packages. It was originally made by Goodmark Foods, which was acquired by ConAgra Foods in 1998.
Andy Capp's snacks come in 1 ounce (28 grams), 1.75 ounce (50 grams), 3.5 ounce (99 grams), and 6.0 ounce packages in four flavors: Hot Fries, Cheddar Fries, Hot Chili Cheese Steak Fries and White Cheddar Steak Fries. Hot Fries were the first popular flavor in this line of snack foods.
This snack is generally classed as junk food, with 150 calories per ounce, 70 of which are from fat, 2 grams of protein and no meaningful quantity of vitamins or important dietary minerals. It also includes the preservative TBHQ which is harmful to ingest in large quantities.[citation needed]
For a long time, on the back of some packages, "Zesty Ranch" was listed as one of the flavors, but it has been discontinued for quite some time, as have the BBQ and Salsa flavors.
