Melanie Oudin (born 23 September 1991 in Georgia, United States)[1] is an American tennis player and former world junior number two.

Junior career

In 2007, Oudin won 27 consecutive matches on the ITF junior Circuit, taking four consecutive tournaments, including the Eddie Herr International Junior Tennis Championships. Going into the Orange Bowl girl's under 18s singles she was hoping to win a fifth consecutive title but lost in the final to Michelle Larcher de Brito of Portugal..[2]

In 2008 she went on to win the Easter Bowl and USTA International Spring Championships in April 2008.[3]. At the French Open Junior Championships Oudin reached the quarter-finals before being knocked out by Romania's Elena Bogdan, 4-6, 4-6. At the junior Wimbledon in 2008, Oudin was the number one seed but lost 1-6, 3-6 to wildcard and eventual winner Laura Robson.[4]

Turning Pro

Oudin turned professional in February 2008.[5]. In April 2008 she received a wildcard at the WTA tournament in Miami where she lost in the first round to Tathiana Garbin in three sets.[6] In October that year, Oudin participated in the 2008 Bell Challenge in Quebec City. In the first round, she defeated 3rd seed Sybille Bammer 6-4, 3-6, 7-5. In the second round, she defeated Russian Olga Puchkova 6-1, 7-6. Reaching her very first WTA quarterfinals, she was defeated by 6th seed Bethanie Mattek 6-7, 1-6.
