== History == |
Created by photographer Jeff Sherwood in 1997 and then later refined by Garrett Poe into a remunerative dotcom, Sherdog features MMA news, individual records of fighters, reviews and previews of MMA events, interviews with fighters and referees, user forums, and original radio programs. Sherdog's Fight Finder is an extensive reference database of professional fighters, bouts, and MMA events. Sherdog.com features articles by Loretta Hunt, Jake Rossen, Mike Sloan, Tim Leidecker, Joe Hall, Scott Holmes, John Lee, Stephen Martinez, Jason Nowe, Tony Loiseleur, Jordan Breen, Tomas Rios, Greg Savage, and Andy Cotterill. Former editor-in-chief Josh Gross left Sherdog in April 2008. Brad McCray was then brought on as the new executive editor having left a position at The Oregonian but was terminated shortly thereafter. Loretta Hunt previously from the Canadian Fight Network has thenceforward acted as the sites news editor with consultation from Joe Hall. Rounding out the editorial staff is managing editor Mike Fridley and assistant editor Brian Knapp. |
Sherdog is also home to the Sherdog Radio Network, an internet-only sports talk network featuring Sherdog writers and staffers; Greg Savage and Jeff Sherwood host The Savage Dog Show (SDS), and The Beatdown featuring TJ De Santis. The radio show, previously released solely as podcasts and pre-taped shows, went live in two-hour time slots in 2007, and has not gone back to its previous format since that time. Following UFC 71 Beatdown started airing live post-fight shows, named Beatdown After The Bell, a format they have since continued. Their inception show contained a major announcement - [[Stephen Quadros]] would be joining the Sherdog Radio Network with his own show on Tuesdays with co-host Aaron Crecy. Jordan Breen too announced he would have his own show and would continue Beatdown after the Bell following major MMA events, as well as having a Sherdog Roundtable before UFC PPV events. Both The Stephen Quadros Show and The Jordan Breen Show commenced June 12, each with an hour-long format, but [[Stephen Quadros]] has since left Sherdog Radio Network in 2008 citing his schedule could no longer accommodate it. The Jordan Breen Show, however, has been sustained heartily by the Breeniacs, as Jordan himself often refers to them and himself. MMA Sunday School began February 2008 with Scott Holmes and Rodney Dean hosting a hour-long show. |
The current schedule includes Beatdown and SDS on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, the Jordan Breen Show on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and MMA Sunday School every Sunday evening. |
Sherdog has teamed with ESPN to provide MMA content for their site. The deal includes ESPN sharing Sherdog's extensive Fight Finder database. The deal would also include the Sherdog Radio Network being part of ESPN's podcast center. They have since been part of ESPN's podcast center, providing new podcasts able to be downloaded every workday.<ref> |
