VenetianPrincess, also known as Jodie-Amy Rivera, is a YouTube celebrity. While performing she goes by Jodie, but her close family and friends call her Amy. With over 245,000 subscribers, she is the 13th most subscribed person on YouTube of all time and in all countries. She gained worldwide fame in 2006 after being featured on the frontpage of YouTube and then in 2007 became one of the first few YouTube video creators to participate in its revenue sharing program.[1] Her videos have been viewed a total of over 70 million times.[2] Her music video for her original song "Somewhere Else" is the pre-installed video on all Samsung Behold cell phones.[3] PC World Magazine named her "7 Things Guys Don't Have To Do" music video one of the top 10 viral videos of 2008. [4]

Background

She studied opera as a coloratura soprano at the New England Conservatory of Music, in Boston, Massachusetts. She has since performed in several professional stage productions throughout the United States, including the touring production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Phantom of The Opera” in which she played Christine.[5]

Her official biography lists her extensive background in modeling, including her most recent title of Miss Massachusetts State Queen.[6]

Videos

She became popular for her episodic series The Princess Chronicles (formerly known as "The Disclosed Series). The series is known for it's elaborate editing and visual effects. [7] Episodes 1 - 8 keep the title of "Disclosed," as those installments disclose the story of the princess’s life in her Venetian palace. The Princess Chronicles begin at Episode 9 and start the story of her adventures around the world. Each episode introduces new magical and eccentric characters, all played by VP disguised in elaborate costumes.

She shoots her videos in her living room in front of a green screen and claims to have no help with filming or post-production. She has cited Tim Burton and Terry Gilliam as favorite directors.[8]

Her YouTube channel also consists of random comedic skits, original music videos, and a murder mystery series called Cirque de Mystère, which takes place in a traveling circus of the early 1940s.

On July 9, 2008, VenetianPrincess made a spoof of Miley Cyrus' 7 Things video. The original song was "The 7 Things I Hate About You", VP's version spoke for the masses as it covered the 7 things (and more) guys don't have to do, that females do. The majority of close to 59,000 comments state that they prefer Venetian Princess's parody version over the original. The video has close to 10 million views in less than a month, making it the number two most viewed video of the month. It has also been favorited 95,000 times- making it number one top favorited of all videos on YouTube. Its 68,000 comments make it one of the most discussed videos of all time. [9]

VenetianPrincess' "I Kissed A Girl" Elderly Remix Parody [10] has received close to 7 million hits and was played on BBC radio on October 26, 2008.[11]
