Roy Spence, along with 4 others, founded the advertising agency GSD&M Idea City in 1971. Based in Austin Texas, the agency has past and current clients that include Wal-Mart, Southwest Airlines, BMW, AT&T and Chili’s. They are also accredited with the slogan, "Don’t Mess With Texas." [1]

Biography

Roy was born in Brownwood, Texas in 1948. In 1967 he enrolled at UT Austin, where he met Tim McClure, Judy Trabulsi and Steve Gurasich – with whom he would found GSD&M in 1971. [2] In 2004, he won the Distinguished Alumnus Award from The University of Texas. The American Advertising Federation and Texas Monthly magazine have previously named Spence Adman of the Century and Adman of the Year [3] Roy and his wife, Mary, live in Austin and have three children. [4]
