Shalom Yechiel This is my third editor review request. My first was Wikipedia:Editor review/YechielMan in February 2007. My second was Wikipedia:Editor review/Shalom in July or August 2007, but that received no responses and I forgot about it anyway.

User:Dlohcierekim suggested that I try another editor review before I make a fourth request for adminship. For details, see this discussion at WT:RFA and the RFA section of User:Shalom Yechiel/Drafts and archives. Notwithstanding, there are good reasons to request a review of my mainspace and project-space work.

My article writing recently focuses on translating articles from Hebrew Wikipedia into English. I have translated about 200 articles by now; the best way to identify these is to check the contribution log of my Hebrew Wikipedia account and look for edits with the summary "interwiki en". See also the list of articles I created. Despite creating more than 300 new article pages, I try to balance quantity with quality. My userpage has two or three articles open for translation at one time - one highway, one town or village, and sometimes one biography - and I finish those tasks before starting a new set of articles. In the past I have also edited in the subject areas of chess, baseball, Judaism and chemistry. I hope to return to these areas, especially chemistry because it is my chosen profession. For now, until Fritzpollbot expands its reach, I perceive the greatest need for content improvement is to complete coverage of towns and villages in Israel, and I hope to continue working toward that distant goal.

Uncategorized pages and suspected sock puppets are the two project pages linked from my userpage. I visit both frequently. I have categorized probably more than a thousand pages, and commented on probably more than a hundred SSP cases. There are many project pages in nearly constant need of attention, and from experience I know that I cannot look at all of them. *PlusesAt first blush, I see a lot of admin related activity, like RCPatrol/vandalism reversion. I see articulate and courteous communications. Article building is probably sufficient to meet most RFA'ers requirements. Did not see any AFD discussions, you should maybe try your hand at that and or DRV. You should be able to contribute constructively there. I would recommend taking the time to list articles you've created/translated over/significantly expanded on one or more subpages linked to your user page. (See User:Dlohcierekim/Created for example.) It is not immodest. It just makes reviewing your work easier. Minuses I believe you are over extended/burned out at WP:SSP. You answers below are a bit overly expansive for RFA. You should be more succinct on your RFA. Suggestions for now Review some recent and current RFA's and editor reviews. It can be beneficial to learn from the experiences of others. Review the admin related policies. Make sure they say what you think they say. Hope this helps. I'll try to look more deeply as the month wears on. Cheers, <font color="#00ff00"> Dloh</font><font color="#bb00bb">cierekim </font> 21:58, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

::These are all good pointers. I've got more experience with XFDs and even DRV than most admins, but I've abandoned that area in recent months. I feel my efforts are better spent elsewhere. That said, I still know enough to close XFDs when needed. I could list articles I've written or translated, as I did at User:Shalom Yechiel/Content contributions, but the list would become unmanageably long. I'll list a few articles on the RFA question 2, and leave the automated tool to find the others. I'll streamline the answers for RFA: I went a little overboard there. Regarding recent and current RFAs and editor reviews: again, I have a lot of experience in these areas, just not recently. The overall impression is that I should diversify into areas I previously worked on but later abandoned. This is good advice in general, but I will need to think about where best to apply it. :; Further comment-- I noted the answers to the questions below. The prefaces in Hebrew are over the top on overly elaborate responses. Admin communications should be as thorough as necessary, but as concise as possible. Admins are often rushed for time and pressed to communicate with confused or angry individuals. Sometimes they are engaged in multiple heated conversations simultaneously. Stressed individuals often experience tunnel vision and cannot assimilate information readily. It can be essential to make a point clearly but with a minimum of time, effort and words. I would recommend working on conciseness. You have "abandoned" AFD. I would not recommend seeking admin tools in any abandoned area without having 3 months recent experience in the run-up to an RFA.

If you like, you might want to answer these Optional questions from User:Dlohcierekim that he lifted form User:Benon who got them from Tawker, <s> JoshuaZ, Rob Church, NSLE</s>. They are 100% optional but may help myself or other voters decide. Some of these are not specifically related to your areas of interest. If I have already voted please feel free to ignore these questions though other editors might find them to be of use. You can also remove the questions you don't want to touch if you like.

:4. You find out that an editor, who's well-known and liked in the community, has been using sockpuppets abusively. What would you do?

::A-

:5. An editor asks you to mediate in a dispute that has gone from being a content dispute to an edit war (but not necessarily a revert war), with hostile language in edit summaries (that are not personal attacks). One involved party welcomes the involvement of an admin, but the other seems to ignore you. They have both rejected WP:RFC as they do not think it would solve anything. Just as you are about to approach the user ignoring you, another admin blocks them both for edit warring and sends the case to WP:RFAR as a third party. Would you respect the other admin's decisions, or would you continue to engage in conversation (over email or IRC) and submit a comment/statement to the RFAR? Let's say the ArbCom rejects the case. What would you do then?

::A-

:6. If you could change any one thing about Wikipedia what would it be?

::A-

:7. Under what circumstances would you indefinitely block a user without any prior direction from Arb Com?

::A-

:8. Suppose you are closing an AfD where it would be keep if one counted certain votes that you suspect are sockpuppets/meatpuppets and would be delete otherwise. The RCU returns inconclusive, what do you do? Is your answer any different if the two possibilities are between no consensus and delete?
::A-

:9. Do you believe there is a minimum number of people who need to express their opinions in order to reasonably close an AfD? If so, what is that number? What about RfDs and CfDs?

::A-

:10. At times, administrators have experienced, or have been close to burnout due to a mixture of stress and conflict inherent in a collaborative web site of this nature. Do you feel able to justify yourself under pressure, and to not permit stress to become overwhelming and cause undesirable or confused behaviour?

::A-

:11. Why do you want to be an administrator?

Hello! "[http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:Miscellany_for_deletion/Wikipedia:Fancruft_%28second_nomination%29&diff=223187980&oldid=223178414 Keep per WP:SPADE" is a weak argument to avoid per WP:VAGUEWAVE, because the spade shortcut is just an essay (my concern is that use of the word as part of agruments violates the incivility policy), and because reasonable people can agree that a spade is indeed a spade and anyone who claims otherwise is essentially not reasonable. What is and is not "cruft", however, is something that editors disagree strongly on. Sincerely, --<font face="Times New Roman"><span style="color:#009">Le Grand Roi des Citrouilles</span></font>Tally-ho! 00:03, 3 July 2008 (UTC)
:That's a fair point. I was trying to make a quick vote on the AFD without going into too much detail. My understanding was that concerns about incivility associated with calling someone else's work "Fancruft" should defer to the need to prune the encyclopedia of unreferenced material. I invoked WP:SPADE to say, if you think something is fancruft, don't be afraid to say so. I understand there are other issues in the fancruft debate that I have not considered. Thanks for your advice. Yechiel (Shalom) <small>Editor review</small> 05:54, 3 July 2008 (UTC)

Questions

<!-- If you wish to leave a blank line after your answer to Q1, please start the blank line with # -->
1. Of your contributions to Wikipedia, are there any about which you are particularly pleased, and why?
<div align="right">
רבן יוחנן בן זכאי קבל מהלל ושמאי. הוא היה אומר: אם למדת תורה הרבה, תחזיק טובה לעצמך, כי לכך נוצרת. - פרקי אבות ב, ט</div>

:Rabban Yochanan ben Zakkai received the tradition from Hillel and Shammai. He used to say: if you have learned much Torah, do not take credit for yourself, because you were created for that purpose. (Pirkei Avot 2:9)

:I do not feel "particularly pleased" about even my best contributions. I do not compare writing on Wikipedia to studying Torah: one is a hobby, the other a religious obligation. However, no matter how many articles I write, I try to remain humble, knowing that I have applied my unique talents and abilities granted by God for the purpose of educating humanity. In fulfillment of this mission, I have done much good for Israel and its people by translating articles about its places, roads and people. Long articles I have translated include Hillel Yaffe Medical Center (DYK), Hillel Yaffe, Petroleum Road (DYK), Highway 3 (Israel), Highway 57 (Israel), She'ar Yashuv Cohen, and Amuka. I also wrote Pi Glilot bombing and Electricity on Shabbat as original content. Last year, I earned Good Article status for endgame tablebase.

2. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or do you feel other users have caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
<div align="right">

:Every dispute undertaken for the sake of Heaven will persist, but every dispute not undertaken for the sake of Heaven will not persist. The disagreement between Hillel and Shammai was a dispute for the sake of Heaven, but the dispute of Korach and his congregants was not for the sake of Heaven. (Pirkei Avot 5:21)

:I have experienced only a few mild conflicts over editing. In the most recent instance, User:Karlhahn disagreed with an edit I made regarding whether methanol was classified as a primary alcohol or as a separate category in the hierarchy of alcohols. We agreed that the sources cut both ways, so I reverted myself. Since the articles I write are mostly outside the well-traveled paths, I rarely run into content disputes. Almost every edit I make to a high-profile article is a vandalism reversion.

:I have involved myself in administrative conflicts, including at the arbitration level. I successfully petitioned ArbCom to release Poetlister from her ban, and I published a long essay here where I argued against ArbCom's finding of fact. FT2 responded with an equally detailed essay on the administrators' noticeboard, and in closing comments I agreed to respect ArbCom's decision. I also presented evidence in three recent cases (Giovanni33 and C68-FM-SV publicly, and CAMERA lobbying on the ArbCom mailing list).

:My most stressful recent experience was receiving sharp censure for my mistaken decision on Wikipedia:Suspected sock puppets/Fonez4mii, which Jehochman overturned after an appeal on ANI. I apologized to User:Jack forbes and acknowledged my error on the SSP page, the ANI thread, and Jehochman's talk page. My most stressful experience this year was fighting to overturn the block on User:CreepyCrawly against a majority of admins who thought he was a sockpuppet of banned user Scibaby. I got very angry and decided to quit Wikipedia for six weeks. For the reader's awareness, I continued to edit anonymously during that entire time, and I helped move Poetlister's case forward. I edited from the following IP addresses, and all edits from these IP addresses are mine:
::71.174.111.205
::71.174.111.245
::71.174.228.123
:In the future, if I cannot resolve an issue calmly, I will just walk away. I hope I will not have to quit Wikipedia in a fit of anger, but if withdrawal is the only alternative to escalating a bitter fight, I will withdraw honorably. When I disagree with other users, I try to stay focused on the issues at hand regarding content or an administrative decision. The minute the disagreement drifts away from questions of best practices toward questions of personal competence, that is the minute to abandon the dispute as a lost cause. The arguments of Shammai and Hillel persist to this day in the Talmudic discourse because they respected one another; conversely, the rebellion of Korach and his congregants led to their deaths, and their substantive complaint against Moses retains no permanent significance. I will not avoid disagreements, but I will try to maintain respect for my peers, as Shammai and Hillel respected each other.
