'Ikrimah is always spelt with the letter 'ayn, such as the names 'Ikrimah Ibn Abi Jahl (ra) and 'Ikrimah Mawlaa Ibn 'Abbaas (see any books of hadeeth narrators, such as taqreeb at-tahdheeb and others), and therefore is unlikely to be connected to the root ka-ra-ma, as the author mentioned, since the letter 'ayn is not from the group of letters which are added to a root in order to change their meaning.
